Model Lee Hyun-ee expressed regrets even after enrolling her two sons in a private elementary school.
On the 23rd, a video titled "The story that almost made me cry because of my son approaching puberty..?" was posted on Lee Hyun-ee's YouTube channel "Working Mom Lee Hyun-ee."
In the video, Lee Hyun-ee visited a favorite restaurant with her husband Hong Seong-gi and talked about various topics. In particular, the fact that her two sons attend the same elementary school as their father drew surprise, and they talked about the lottery history of private elementary schools, the prop culture, and satisfaction with the educational methods.
Recently, schools have been removing events that rank children, field trips, and experiential learning to protect children's self-esteem and safety. Lee Hyun-ee said, "Parent and teacher consent should all be obtained, but up to now they've been doing them all," and noted, "The neighborhood school still holds a sports day, but because there are many students they split it into morning and afternoon and parents do not come. I heard the children do it among themselves."
In particular, her two sons were attending the elementary school that their father Hong Seong-gi attended. Lee Hyun-ee said, "When I say the second goes to the same school as the first, people ask if he entered because his older brother was there, but there is no sibling admission at all," and Hong Seong-gi said, "In my day they put a hand in the box and if O came out you passed, if X came out you failed. It was like 'Squid Game Season.'" Lee Hyun-ee said, "For the first one they did a live broadcast on YouTube, and for the second it was a method of submitting to three places together through the education office site, and we luckily won a spot at the school my older son attends."
Lee Hyun-ee mentioned a downside of enrolling in a private elementary school, saying, "There are no neighborhood friends." Hong Seong-gi sympathized, saying, "I experienced that too. Around fourth grade I had no playmates so I made friends while going to neighborhood academies. I felt alienated going into middle school and it was hard," and Lee Hyun-ee said, "The eldest has a dormitory romance and wants to go to an international middle school. This summer he will go to a U.S. camp to try out a month of dormitory life in advance."
