Actor Shin Ha Kyun donned an entirely new face and delivered a thrilling catharsis to home viewers.
On the 22nd, the first broadcast of MBC's new Fri-Sat drama Fifties Professionals (planning: Kwon Seong-chang / director: Han Dong-hwa / writer: Jang Won-seop) showcased Shin Ha Kyun's one-man show as he perfectly transformed from a successful National Intelligence Service (NIS) black agent into Jeong Ho-myeong, a character who loses vitality in a bland daily life.
In that broadcast, Shin Ha Kyun exuded an extraordinary aura from his first appearance. He delivered a thrilling rush with firearm action and high-difficulty moves that subdued opponents in an instant, firmly imprinting the sharp charisma of "black agent Jeong Ho-myeong."
But the twist was only beginning. After being diagnosed with menopause he whimpered in front of Jo Seong-won (played by Kim Sang-ho), and, pushed by his father-in-law's pressure, he went to collect payment for a purchase on credit, among other moments of 'pathetic charm' that manipulated viewers.
Shin Ha Kyun freely navigated between the extremes of charisma and everyday acting. He held tension with a piercing gaze yet evoked deep empathy as an ordinary father who chokes up over a single toy of his son. From the overwhelming scope of the opening to the reality of a dad holding an English kindergarten flyer, Shin Ha Kyun's detailed acting made home viewers hold their breath.
At the end of the broadcast, a powerful ending unfolded as Jeong Ho-myeong and Bong Je-soon (played by Oh Jung-se), who met after 10 years, raising curiosity about future developments. Expectations are focused on the trajectory of Fifties Professionals, which already carried big-hit energy from the first episode through Shin Ha Kyun's hard carry and a solid story.
Meanwhile, Fifties Professionals tells the story of three men who seemed ordinary but once had clout being set in motion again by fate, and episode 2 will air today (the 23rd) at 9:50 p.m.
