Actor Park Eunbin candidly shared her thoughts on the controversy over the lead actor that surfaced before the release of The Wonder Fools.
On the morning of the 22nd, an interview with Netflix original The Wonder Fools lead actor Park Eunbin took place at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul.
The Wonder Fools is a superpower comic adventure set at the end of 1999 about neighborhood misfits who accidentally gain superpowers and struggle to protect the world against villains who threaten peace.
When asked about her feelings on the release of the work that day, Park Eunbin said, "Actually, they provided the screener first, so I was able to see it early. Because this work actually took a long time, when I looked back until it was finally released to the world, so many things flashed through my mind. From the moment I first heard about this project and decided to do it, I gradually added to the conversations with the director, and those recollections made it a very poignant time. So I was very happy that it was released."
The Wonder Fools had all eight episodes released on Netflix on the 15th. Park Eunbin, who said, "Actually, this is my first time in an original work that released all episodes at once," added, "Because Hyper Knife was also my first OTT work, but it released two episodes a week, so there were four weeks. This is the first time I showed the beginning and the end at the same time, so usually when I do interviews I have time to slowly organize the character, but now I honestly didn't know what to do. I didn't know when to show this character, and it also feels like a beginning. These days I'm worried about when to say a proper goodbye."
She added, "There are actually so many photos I haven't posted. Lately I'm filming Spooky in Love, and every dawn I'm taking a trip down memory lane looking at The Wonder Fools photos, and there are so many. I wonder when I'll post all of these, that's been my worry these days," and she joked, "Until when should I keep doing it?"
However, The Wonder Fools took a direct hit when lead actor Cha Eun-woo was caught up in tax evasion allegations at the time the release was being awaited. Director Yoon In-sik said at the production presentation, "At that time, editing and postproduction had already been completed and we encountered the matter through articles," and added cautiously, "This project was my long-held dream, and everyone involved here worked hard to shoot every single second of footage. Although other dramas are difficult too, this was a production that suffered more than others. We proceeded with editing and postproduction putting the overall completeness of the drama first."
When asked about the crisis in which the release of the work almost became uncertain due to the lead actor's controversy, Park Eunbin cautiously answered, "To be honest, I devoted myself to filming my next work, Spooky in Love, for three to four months, so I had no time to worry about anything other than filming."
She expressed firm trust in the production team, saying, "This project was one I started trusting the director on, and because I spent time filming without burden and with enjoyable memories, I spent my time trusting the production staff and the team." (Continued in interview ②).<
