On the 21st, the tvN variety program "Undercover Chef" showed Sam Kim, Jung Ji-seon, and Kwon Seong-jun posing as the youngest kitchen staff while working overseas.
That day, Sam Kim, a chef with 27 years of experience who is the owner chef of two restaurants managing 26 employees, was asked what his past as the youngest was like before the full-scale overseas undercover employment began.
He replied, "I confidently tell my staff this, but I was truly the youngest who was enormously loved by the bosses. My legs couldn't be seen. I had the ability to do many things at once."
He continued, "I think I was more desperate because I had to work abroad to survive. Because I was Asian, the people I worked with had the preconception that 'this person probably can't do it.' I had to stand out more because they might or might not recognize me only if I did the work well."
Afterward, Sam Kim said he tried to earn the seniors' affection. He said, "I prepared earlier in the morning than the seniors. Even if the placement wasn't perfect when done like in the photo, they would say, 'Oh! Look at him?' and like it. Sometimes it backfired with 'Who did this?'"
He recalled, "And when the seniors came, I made each of them a cup of coffee. I didn't used to drink Americanos much. When we went to work, everyone drank a cup of coffee, and if they didn't drink coffee they looked at you very strangely."
Sam Kim said he learned coffee to fit in. He said, "I drank it once and my heart was pounding so hard. From then on I practiced drinking coffee before going to work. After one to two weeks, my heart still raced but I was trained enough to be able to drink it," which caused surprise.
