Actor Gang Dong-won picked the film "The Detective" as a sore spot on "Study King True Genius."
On the 21st, the YouTube channel "Study King True Genius Hong Jin Kyung" featured Gang Dong-won as a guest under the title "The three women who utterly drained Gang Dong-won's energy! First-ever reveal of a career-defining life story (Jang Young-ran, Lee Ji Hye)."
That day, Hong Jin Kyung wanted to form a mixed-gender group with Jang Young-ran and Lee Ji Hye. Accordingly, in a concept similar to 1990s idol stars, Hong Jin Kyung took the name "Hongsu," Jang Young-ran took the name "Chanel," and Lee Ji Hye took the name "Gabi," forming a group and then holding auditions to pick a male member. The audition applicants included Nam Chang Hee and Gang Dong-won. Hong Jin Kyung, Jang Young-ran and Lee Ji Hye all showered Gang Dong-won with attention.
Hong Jin Kyung said, "I won't look at visuals. Are you going to live off your looks?" in a firm tone, but burst out laughing at Lee Ji Hye's remark, "Why would you live off your looks? Are you looking for a husband?" Soon after, they all leapt at Gang Dong-won at once, drawing laughter. At one point Hong Jin Kyung even asked Gang Dong-won, "When was your last kiss?" To which Nam Chang Hee, newly married, confidently replied, "I did yesterday," adding to the laughter.
They also took time, using the audition as an excuse, to hear about Gang Dong-won's life story. Discovered through street casting and starting out as a model, Gang Dong-won debuted immediately as a top star after the 2003 drama "Pomp and Circumstance Her." What was the work he felt most attached to? Gang Dong-won confessed, "There are works I worked really hard on but that were less recognized than I expected."
Gang Dong-won said, "The film 'The Detective' is that kind of work." In fact, "The Detective" generated expectations for flashy action and casting but drew only 920,000 viewers. Gang Dong-won said, "I prepared for eight months. At that time I trained in dance, doing about eight months of dance to apply modern dance to the action. I'm the kind of person who goes all in," adding, "When I'm resting I learn things. I once learned woodworking. When I'm off I'm always waiting for the next project, so I often learn about that project."
Meanwhile, Gang Dong-won is preparing to open his new film "Wild Sing." "Wild Sing" is a comedy about a three-member mixed-gender dance group called "Triangle" that once swept the music scene but was unexpectedly caught up in an incident and disbanded overnight, and 20 years later makes a reckless challenge to seize a chance at a comeback. It opens on June 3.
