Comedian Park Seong-gwang's wife, Lee Sol, revealed that while battling cancer she once took a memorial portrait for someone.
On the 20th, Lee Sol uploaded a vlog video to her social account with the post "When the azaleas bloom, I will think of it every year. Maybe that's why this year I strangely didn't feel sad even when the cherry blossoms fell :)".
In the video, Lee Sol said, "I am thirty-nine. Around the time the azaleas bloomed last year, I took a memorial portrait," catching attention. She recalled, "I was taking pictures with my mother in front of the azaleas when a passing grandmother said, "Could you take a picture of me too?" Contrary to her bold words, she stood awkwardly in front of the flowers and took the photo with a faint, awkward smile."
She continued, "My mother kept saying how pretty and lovely she was to ease the mood, and the grandmother's smile naturally blossomed as well. Perhaps smiling was unfamiliar to her because the laugh lines looked stiff, but her heart must still have been that of a young girl. The grandmother, heading toward the senior center, soon grabbed her friends and said, "It came out well. I can use it as a memorial portrait," showing them the photo," conveying the moment her heart dropped.
Lee Sol said, "The moment I heard that I looked at my mother with a frozen expression and she comforted me, saying, "There are times when things are accepted naturally. Looking back now, that's how it is for me too." That night, the grandmother's image kept lingering, and I couldn't go upstairs; I cried for a long time in the parking lot," she revealed. In particular, because Lee Sol is undergoing cancer treatment, discussions of death seemed to strike her even more deeply.
She said, "I wondered whether the death I never wanted to face would one day be something I accept calmly, whether parting is so trivial in daily life. I felt a heavy pain realizing that the photo I took today might have been the image someone wanted to leave behind at the last moment of life. When the sweet azaleas bloom, I think of the grandmother. In my memory, she will be remembered forever as the azalea girl," conveying her poignant feelings.
Meanwhile, Lee Sol married comedian Park Seong-gwang in 2020. While preparing for a second child, she was diagnosed with a female cancer; she underwent surgery and chemotherapy and is known to be currently continuing regular checkups and medication treatment.
