Profiler-turned-broadcaster Kwon Il-yong expressed anger at a YouTube channel that uploads videos using his name without permission.
On the 20th, Kwon Il-yong posted a lengthy message on his personal social media saying, "Stop the fake news broadcasts immediately and delete them."
On that day, Kwon Il-yong lamented, "Recently, video content produced using my name without permission has been circulated through YouTube and various online video platforms and social media channels."
He went on to say, "In particular, some channels are covering recent tragic incidents and accidents, fabricating false facts as if I had directly interviewed or analyzed those cases, and deceiving viewers into believing they are true."
Kwon Il-yong said, "In a situation where the facts of the case have not been clearly revealed, impersonating me and offering sensational speculative analyses is a serious harmful act that inflicts irreparable wounds on the bereaved families," and added, "I deeply regret the form of using others' pain as a tool to generate revenue."
He emphasized, "I have never conducted any prior consultation or interviews with those channels," and suggested legal action, saying, "Unauthorized use of portrait and name rights and spreading false information are clear criminal acts and serious infringements of rights. I am currently collecting channel information and evidence related to those videos with my legal representative, and we are considering strong responses to take all applicable legal measures."
In response, Kwon Il-yong appealed, "If you find illegal impersonation videos or channels, please actively report them."
Meanwhile, Kwon Il-yong is known as the country's first profiler and has appeared on various programs, including SBS "Unanswered Questions," MBC "Radio Star," tvN "You Quiz on the Block," and SBS "Master in the House," where he has demonstrated his expertise as a crime specialist as well as stood out for his distinctive wit and entertainment sense.
