Visually impaired YouTuber OneShot Hansol (Kim Hansol) confessed to being in a relationship with the channel's producer.
On the 21st, a video titled "Now honestly revealing our love story" was uploaded to the OneShot Hansol channel.
That day, Kim Hansol went on a picnic with producer Jeongmin. Nervous, he said, "I've been doing YouTube with Jeongmin for a little over four years. But since we posted our first video with Jeongmin, the questions I've heard the most are 'What on earth are those two to each other?', 'Are they dating?', 'Are they in a relationship?' There were so many of those questions. But embarrassingly, I never properly answered them for over four years. I'm going to answer that now. Hansol and Jeongmin, for those of you who have been curious, we're dating. We're seeing each other. It's a relationship. We're in a relationship," he announced publicly.
He said, "There were always rumors that it was business or relatives, and each time I thought I should tell people quickly. Whatever the reason for hesitating, if we reveal our relationship, everyone will know, so I thought it might be better for both of us to have some certainty in the relationship, so we tried filming a couple of reveal videos and failed. If this video is released, then it will be a success, right?"
Kim Hansol then talked about his first meeting with producer Jeongmin, saying, "Jeongmin just showed up at the cafe I often go to," and producer Jeongmin explained, "I was a longtime fan of yours. I always watched your videos. As I kept watching, I got curious. She always goes to this cafe? Then if I go there, she'll be there, so I went to find her." He added that there were no romantic feelings at the time, saying, "You asked to meet again the next week, so we met again. Why did you ask to meet again?" and Jeongmin replied, "Because I was curious. I think you had about 200,000 subscribers then. No matter how I looked at it, I thought she might grow bigger. I suddenly thought she might not be someone I could easily meet later when her subscriber count grew, so I went again the next week to get closer."
Producer Jeongmin emphasized, "At that time you suddenly said you were looking for a producer. I happened to want to be a producer, so I had no intention of dating you at all." Kim Hansol said, "That's how we started working together, and we met all the time, joked around, talked and ate together, and affection built up. To be honest, what I liked about you was that you take really good care of me. You're like an older sister. I said, 'Does your face look dry?' and the next day you suddenly brought me a bunch of moisturizing cream and toner. You asked how I eat breakfast, and then the next morning you brought breakfast. I was touched by that."
In addition, a handwritten letter that Kim Hansol wrote for the confession was revealed and drew attention. He said, "I wanted to express my feelings, but I haven't written by hand in over 10 years. My language is Braille, right? I wanted to write to you in the language I use, and even if I gave you Braille you couldn't see it. So after writing all the Braille, I read each line by hand and copied the handwriting next to it. But because I didn't know how far I'd written, I wrote from memory in my head, and it took more than eight hours to write the whole thing, no lie. I'm so embarrassed," he said, feeling awkward.
Producer Jeongmin described how he felt when he received the confession: "I wondered why she confessed. We'll keep working together, and I was worried it might become awkward. I worried a lot. We have work to do, and if we break up will one of us get fired? But I still liked it," he said. Kim Hansol said, "One of the worries about revealing our relationship was that I have a disability and Jeongmin does not. Some people will say, 'Is the woman sacrificing?', 'How pitiful.' Certainly many people will bless us, but I was worried about the strange people. But now I have a bit more certainty, and I thought that if I show how we handle things, those comments might disappear, so we decided to go public."
He said, "There was the same reaction when I raised Tori. How does a visually impaired person raise a dog? But now that's completely gone, right? In a way I want to show the things I can do for Tori and, like 'even without sight you can do it,' find ways together and be in a lovely relationship," he sincerely shared.
Producer Jeongmin described Kim Hansol as "a person who finds a way." He said, "If there's something you can't do, you always look for how you can do it. I used to have a lot of prejudice; on TV when a visually impaired person appeared, they were portrayed as someone who sees nothing and can't do anything. But you do everything so well. You eat well too. So I thought I'd really have a lot to help with," he marveled. Kim Hansol said, "Anyway, over four years some people waited and some people left thinking, 'I can't wait any longer; they won't reveal themselves.' Now it's public, and from now on we'll post lots of fun videos with Tori and with Jeongmin, so I hope people watch us kindly."
In particular, Kim Hansol said, "I started YouTube because I have a disability, and you enjoyed that YouTube and came to find me. You came to me and we became such a good match. So in a way my disability is my strength. It even led me to meet Tori. I thought about whether I could go back to before I became disabled. I can't give up all of this and go back. Maintaining the present seems much better. From my experience living, that's how I feel," he candidly expressed, adding to the emotion.
After the video was released, producer Jeongmin left a comment saying, "This is the first time I've talked about something like this so I'm very embarrassed and very nervous. Meanwhile, Kim Hansol is a visually impaired YouTuber who runs the OneShot Hansol channel, which has 1.72 million subscribers. Originally non-disabled, he is reported to have lost all his eyesight in 2010 due to the rare disease Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON).
