An intruder broke into the home in Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul where actress Kim Gyuri lives, assaulted the residents and demanded valuables in a shocking incident. The suspect turned himself in after the crime and was urgently detained by the police.
On the 21st, according to the police, a man in his 40s identified as A was urgently detained on suspicion of robbery and assault and is under investigation. A is accused of secretly breaking into Kim Gyuri's home in Jongno District, Seoul, at around 9 p.m. on the 20th and demanding valuables while assaulting the residents.
At the time, Kim Gyuri and a female cohabitant surnamed B were together in the house, and B is reported to have directly encountered and witnessed A's robbery as he walked around the home. The 112 emergency call received that day reportedly included the urgent statement, "a robber tried to bind me."
A threatened them by attempting to tie them up and, in the process of trying to flee, engaged in a violent struggle with Ms. B. Taking advantage of a lapse in A's vigilance, Kim Gyuri and Ms. B dramatically escaped from the dwelling and urgently sought help from a nearby passerby. The two were said to have suffered injuries such as fractures and bruises from A's assault.
A, who had fled after committing the crime, surrendered himself at around 12 a.m. on the 21st, about three hours after the incident. He went to the police box near Hwaggok-dong in Gangseo District, Seoul, where the crime scene was located, and surrendered. The police are currently investigating A to determine the specific motive and circumstances of the incident. A key issue is whether the crime was a premeditated, carefully prepared plan targeting a specific victim, and considering the seriousness of the matter, the police plan to soon request an arrest warrant for A.
Meanwhile, concern is heightened because Kim Gyuri's home, where the robbery occurred, was publicly detailed to the public in 2022 through the KBS 2TV entertainment program "Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant."
