That day Hwang Jung-eum mentioned the embezzlement controversy and said, "There was a big matter that many people know about, and I was so busy dealing with it that I was frantic. I tried my best at my level to take responsibility so that no one would suffer damages because of me," she said.
Earlier, Hwang Jung-eum was sentenced to two years in prison with four years of probation on charges of embezzling 4.3 billion won from her one-person agency last year and investing it in cryptocurrency. At the time she had repaid the entire amount of the damages, but the land and building of her detached house in Itaewon were placed under provisional seizure.

Because of the various controversies, commercials she had appeared in were taken down, and there were also penalty issues. Hwang Jung-eum said, "I paid all the penalties.
