"Gunchae" star Jun Ji-hyun confessed that she held back because she was worried the action scenes might come out too well.
On the afternoon of the 20th at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul, a press screening for the film "Gunchae" was held. Director Yeon Sang-ho and lead actors Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Changwook, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rock and others attended.
"Gunchae" (directed by Yeon Sang-ho, distributed by SHOWBOX, produced by Wowpoint (WOWPOINT)·Smilegate, co-produced by Midnight Studio) is a film that depicts the desperate battle of isolated survivors trapped inside a building sealed off by a mysterious infection, fighting infected people who evolve into unpredictable forms. It forecasts a new evolution of the zombie genre while announcing the birth of a new species different from existing zombies, raising expectations that it will once again showcase the genre's evolution.
The new film "Gunchae" by director Yeon Sang-ho, who made "Train to Busan," "The Face," and "Hell," was officially invited to the midnight screening section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, where it received seven minutes of standing ovations immediately after the screening, and it has been pre-sold to 124 countries overseas. It has attracted global attention from around the world even before its domestic release.
Jun Ji-hyun, returning to the screen 11 years after the film "Assassination," gave a passionate performance as Kwon Se-jung, a biotech scientist and the leader of the survivors.
Despite being a doctor of biotechnology, Jun Ji-hyun performed adept action scenes and said, "Even I thought, 'She's a doctor and a professor — is it suddenly okay for her to be good at action?' I had that concern," noting, "In a way, I remember shooting with restraint. Kwon Se-jung was a character who avoided danger in any situation. So I maintained an appropriate level while doing the action."
Jun Ji-hyun recently attended the Cannes Film Festival and smiled, "I just returned from Cannes. I went to introduce our film and returned having received energy there. It was a grateful opportunity to introduce our film, and I think it was a chance that gave me great courage and strength as an actor to introduce 'Gunchae.'"
