Broadcaster Seo Kyung-seok surprised viewers by revealing that he once attended Seoul National University by paying only 50,000 won in tuition.
On the 18th episode of tvN STORY 'What's the point of leaving it behind', Lee Young-ja and Pak Se-ri met guest Seo Kyung-seok, a Seoul National University alumnus, in Sarosu-gil, drawing attention.
That day Seo Kyung-seok revisited the neighborhood after 30 years while heading to the meeting place. He said, "I couldn't find it without a map. It's changed so much," and stopped in front of an officetel building.
He said, "This is the officetel building I moved into after I became a comedian and earned some money. It's been well over 30 years, but it's still standing. I feel like crying. Memories are coming back one after another."
Afterward, Seo Kyung-seok met Lee Young-ja and Pak Se-ri at a shop. Recalling his student days, Seo Kyung-seok said, "Seoul National University's tuition was the cheapest in the country. In one semester it was 400,000 won," evoking the cost of living at the time.
He continued, "If you helped a teaching assistant, you received a work-study scholarship. It was 400,000 won, but if you worked you attended school paying 50,000 won," he recalled. Hearing this, Lee Young-ja was surprised and said, "You went for free."
Meanwhile, Seo Kyung-seok said he studied for the real estate agent exam for two years and "I cried because studying was so hard. Of the six subjects, five are law. Unless you work in the legal field, it's like a foreign language. I barely passed over two years," he said, drawing sympathy.
