Rapper DinDin opened up about choosing to drop out after enduring excessive corporal punishment from his homeroom teacher in high school.
On the 15th, the "DinDin is DinDin" channel uploaded a "Vancouver project binge" video. The video is an edited compilation of last year's "Vancouver project" videos and contains stories about the circumstances behind DinDin's study abroad in Vancouver.
That day DinDin recalled, "My parents suggested studying in Canada because I was spending a lot on private education. I took math tutoring, science tutoring, and attended a comprehensive cram school; I wasted a lot on private education but my grades didn't improve, so my mom told me to consider studying abroad in the first place, but I said no. Back then I liked being with my friends," remembering the situation when his parents first suggested studying abroad.
He said, "Then I had just entered the first year of high school. I went to school and the teacher wrote names on the blackboard. He wrote '성기O' like that. It was so funny. So I started laughing. Then he suddenly looked at me like that. He said he expelled five students every year. He said he would definitely expel five students who were unnecessary for the school. He said he would expel five this time too, and he looked at each student, and he looked at me," he revealed.
He continued, "On the first day they checked bags. As soon as we went, they checked our bags and a comic book came out. I was made to lie face down with my arms stretched out. Then another kid came up and he was just passed. And only those five kids had their bags checked. It was already such discrimination. Then I went to school the next day. At the main gate there was a hair inspection. I was one minute late. I got there at 51 minutes. It's supposed to be until 50 minutes. When they asked why I was late, I said my hair got caught at the gate. They told me to put my leg on the window railing, clench my fists, and lie face down. They kept hitting me whenever my buttocks came down," he said, shocking listeners.
DinDin said, "Then our class president arrived later than me. When I asked, 'Why are you late?' he said, 'My hair got caught,' and they told him to 'go in.' So I asked, 'Why is he going in?' Then they hit me again. After that, my butt hurt so much that I went to the infirmary. I slept for two periods in the infirmary. That was wrong. But the nurse told me to sleep. When I said it hurt a lot, she told me to rest before going. After that, when we went to homeroom, he suddenly looked at me and asked, 'Where were you for the third and fourth periods?' I said, 'I went to the infirmary,' and he asked why I went to the infirmary. When I said, 'The (infirmary) teacher told me to sleep,' he said, 'I've never heard of that,'" he explained.
He went on, "I asked, 'Didn't you tell him to sleep?' Then they suddenly told me to come out. 'Do you know why you're being hit?' they said. I said I didn't know. 'Is the infirmary teacher your sweetheart?' they said. I was hit for something that made no sense. After school they told me to clean the air conditioner filter before going home. After I cleaned everything and stood by the urinal, the class president said, 'Did you finish all this? I'll put it away,' so I said, 'No, don't,' but he took it. The homeroom teacher saw it and said I had ordered him to do it. I'm 158 cm tall; who would I order? Then they suddenly took me to the teacher's office and hit me again," he expressed his grievance.
He said, "But that day I really snapped. When I got home and took off my school uniform, I cried. So I called my homeroom teacher. I said, 'Why did you hit me earlier? Why did you hit me earlier!' My mom came and stopped it, talked, and told me not to go to school, and my mom and dad told me not to go to school. So I didn't go to school for two weeks. They told me to think about my future path. But then I thought if I lived like this, my life would be ruined. So I told my mom I would study abroad. So I dropped out that day and went abroad a month later," he revealed.
