Prosecutors sought a 10-year prison sentence for a man in his 30s, identified as A, who was indicted on charges of breaking into the home of singer and actress Nana and injuring her.
On the 19th, the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office Namyangju Branch asked for a 10-year prison term at the sentencing hearing for defendant A, who was indicted on charges of robbery and injury.
The prosecution said, "The defendant carried a weapon, unlawfully entered the residence and committed crimes that threatened female victims, so a severe punishment is necessary," and "He denies the charges and has not shown remorse, and the victims are suffering mentally," explaining the reasons for the sentence request.
A's defense lawyer made a final argument, saying, "He only entered the residence at night with the intent to steal; there was no intent to rob. There is no evidence that the defendant carried a weapon when he entered," and A also claimed, "I sincerely apologize to the victims and will never commit a crime again. I admit unlawful entry into a residence and attempted theft, but I did not carry out a robbery."
Meanwhile, in November of last year, A broke into Nana's home in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, demanded money and threatened them with a weapon. Nana and her mother subdued the robber after a scuffle and handed him over to the police.
As the trial proceeded, Nana and her mother appeared as victims and testified. As soon as Nana entered the courtroom, she expressed anger at A, saying, "Is this funny? Look me in the eye." The court admonished her, saying, "Please observe courtroom decorum. We understand your feelings, but the trial cannot proceed smoothly in an agitated state," and Nana said, "I can't help being agitated."
Especially, suffering severe trauma from the incident, Nana revealed her feelings, saying, "I thought I gave this person a chance appropriate to the situation and made the right choice. So why has this trial dragged on so long, and why do we have to endure humiliation? It feels like we are being victimized countless times."
The sentencing hearing for A will be held on June 9.
