Actor Kim Young-ok's life is once again touching many people's hearts. She spent her life as an actor bringing laughter, but offstage she quietly endured times of family pain that were hard to bear. Comfort and support are flowing to her.
Recently on YouTube, Kim Young-ok candidly spoke about the wounds from malicious comments, her grandson's accident and her remorse toward her family. He said, "I have heard many kind words, but when I hear 'please stop being so zealous now' it hurts my heart," and revealed the feelings she had hidden behind her smile.
Most heartbreaking of all was the family story. Kim Young-ok confessed that in the past she stayed by her grandson's side for a long time after he was diagnosed with paralysis of the lower body following a traffic accident caused by driving without a license while intoxicated. The grandson regained consciousness after a coma, and her daughter's health deteriorated from prolonged caregiving. She said, "I just hope my grandson can hold on like this," and her eyes welled up.
Meanwhile, news of a separation from her husband was recently announced. Kim Young-ok's husband, former announcer Kim Young-il, passed away from a chronic illness. The two met in college and married in 1960, then spent many years together as a couple.
On a broadcast Kim Young-ok said, "you never know about people's lives until the end," and "just because you are old doesn't mean you know everything about life." As those words suggest, although she has lived more years than most, the sight of her still bearing the weight of life with her whole being adds to the sadness.
Netizens have also sent support and comfort, saying, "I hope teacher Kim Young-ok takes care of her health," "she always smiled brightly but my heart is heavy," "just enduring such difficult times is remarkable," and "the heavens are so cruel."
Along with mourning for the deceased, warm condolences continue to be offered to Kim Young-ok. Voices of support such as "I hope the rest of her days are more peaceful and happy" are also being heard.
