Comedian Kim Ji-min was angered by a story about pressure to have a son.
On the 20th episode of SBS Plus' Lee Ho-seon's Cider, which aired on the 16th, under the theme "failures that shattered everyday life," stories were revealed about an office worker whose attempts to be funny repeatedly failed, a woman struggling to start over after a past affair, a story in which consideration from others after an unsuccessful in vitro fertilization became a wound, a daughter who could not leave her room because of repeated job search failures, and a pregnant woman who suffered discrimination from her in-laws for having only daughters.
The top story that day featured a pregnant woman suffering because her in-laws pressured her to have a son and discriminated against granddaughters. The first daughter, under pressure from the in-laws, said, "Mom, please have a younger brother," and when the second child also turned out to be a daughter, the first daughter burst into tears, leaving Lee Ho-seon and Kim Ji-min unable to hide their shock.
Moreover, after the first daughter went to her in-laws' house, an incident in which she hid under her uncle's desk led to the first daughter receiving psychological treatment, and the doctor diagnosed that she should be separated from the source of her stress, a development that saddened everyone.
Kim Ji-min revealed that she is currently attempting in vitro fertilization and said angrily, "I go to a fertility clinic, and there are so many people that you can barely stand. There are so many people in Korea who cannot have children, and hearing stories like this makes me so angry." Cha Ri-na, who appeared as the first celebrity storyteller, also burst out, "For a while I tried so hard to have a child, and the fact that people don't cherish them and mistreat them makes me angry."
Lee Ho-seon sharply criticized the husband's attitude. Lee Ho-seon said firmly, "This is not something to mediate; it's a matter of protecting the wife and daughters," and added, "If someone disrespects my child, that is disrespecting me." He went on, "Where is the hierarchy of life? The era when sons were important and daughters were less so is over," pinpointing the in-laws' archaic attitude.
Lee Ho-seon then directed a remark at the in-laws: "You all won't get to see your granddaughters."
