'My Royal Nemesis' Lim Ji-yeon delivered a perfect performance in one episode, from action and mukbang to sorrowful tears.
On the 16th, the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'My Royal Nemesis' (directed by Han Tae-seop, written by Kang Hyun-joo, produced by Studio S·Gil Pictures) aired, in which Shin Seori (Kang Dan-sim/Lim Ji-yeon) struggled to adapt to modern life and formed a strange current with Cha Segye (Heo Nam-jun), unable to hide her trembling eyes.
At Cha Segye's suggestion, her agency was acquired by his corporation. Baik Jiwon (playing Hong Bu-seon) had it on her tongue and told Shin Seori, "We're going into season 2 of the drama, so we've pushed your slot. You eat well, so it might be good if you join a mukbang variety show," informing her. Shin Seori, rather, became engrossed in the drama and cleverly absorbed it with her smart mind.
He gradually adapted to the modern world. As Baek Gwang-nam (Kim Min-seok) and Gu Pil-gyu (Park Jin-woo) told him about 'fans,' he learned about them, defined Cha Segye's care for his swollen cheek and constant attention to small things as fan affection, and learned the concept of 'reciprocal gifts.' Shin Seori sent a hand-painted picture along with a handwritten letter. Cha Segye misread Shin Seori's handwriting as "This woman likes me" and his eyes became wildly trembling.
No matter how clever Shin Seori was, she couldn't fully know the life the real Shin Seori had lived. She went to see the grandmother who cared for her, Nam Ok-soon (Kim Hae-sook). The bleak neighborhood had emptied long ago because Cha Segye's grandfather's company had bought homes and land for resort development.
Nam Ok-soon worried, saying, "Did your memory start fading when you were young? You were like that for a while after that accident when you almost died," noting Shin Seori's changed speech and confused childhood memories. In response, Shin Seori used martial arts to subdue thugs who came causing a disturbance, and the grandmother realized that Shin Seori was not her granddaughter.
Cha Segye appeared there and saved Shin Seori. Cha Il-do was with him. Cha Il-do asked, "What is this young lady's relation to my grandson?" and Shin Seori proudly said, "Cha Segye is my fan." Cha Segye said he helped because, as the son of an entertainer mother who gave birth to him, he was treated as a weakness in the family, saying, "I helped because the circumstances were pitiful." Shin Seori left with a sorrowful expression.
Cha Segye, bothered by it, looked for Shin Seori. Shin Seori was crying sadly. Shin Seori said, "Don't look at me pityingly, don't pity me. Isn't it because of me that you misunderstood? I'm not even a fan, yet you seem to assume I must be in love with you," adding, "Even if we're nothing between a man and a woman, worrying and supporting someone, anyone would think that way, not just me."
Cha Segye said, "If it's not a misunderstanding? I am a believer in black-and-white logic. Either black or white, either ally or enemy. But you are neither. You keep confusing me," and then Cha Segye embraced Shin Seori to confirm his feelings.
