Broadcaster Do Kyung Wan faced a viewership crisis after Jang Yoon Jeong went independent on YouTube.
On the 16th a video titled "gently delivered message" was uploaded to the Dojang TV channel.
That day, visiting the conference room Do Kyung Wan explained, "We urgently came to the office to hold an emergency countermeasure meeting with our production team to brainstorm for a channel at a crossroads. Whose office? Jang Yoon Jeong's office."
The production team asked, "What should we do?" and Do Kyung Wan replied, "I have many concerns. As you all know we are really trying various things. We tried cooking, brought a perfectly normal person and had them draw, learned cooking and tried feeding the kids, even made soup with Jang Yoon Jeong and fed it to them, traveled with unfamiliar friends, went hiking — we tried many things but it's not easy. So we're meeting now with the production team to decide what to do, but you called because you had some ideas, right?"
In response the production team asked, 'What does hyung want to do?' and Do Kyung Wan said, "Many people in the comments and the view counts don't lie. Looking at views and comments the most well-received thing was when I did what I wanted without embellishment. Even if my hair was messy and I dressed sloppily, people liked my unvarnished self doing what I like. Focusing on those things, since it's Dojang TV we have the three Do's and one Jang at our house. Now that the one Jang has moved out and is doing well, we can occasionally borrow that person's help to sometimes show family moments, sometimes eat delicious food with my wife, or go play somewhere with the i-dle, and aside from that what else can I do alone to show a human side of me — I'm researching that."
Earlier Jang Yoon Jeong left Dojang TV to create a new personal channel "Factory chief Jang Yoon Jeong" and is building her own content. In response Do Kyung Wan shared his concerns about his own content.
The production team said, "You don't have to be particularly good at something. Just show your unvarnished self. It seems viewers of channels like ours prefer to watch unvarnished daily life rather than content for the sake of content, so doing it that way might give more differentiation and be better for the channel's image."
Do Kyung Wan said, "I'm truly desperate to know what unvarnished things would suit me. You all know me, right? If you actively comment what you think would suit me I'll do it all, really," and he added, "If you tell me to strip I'll strip," using an extreme remark to show his desperation.
He said, "Watching teacher Sunwoo Yongyeo's YouTube made me realize that while image is of course important, that person's natural self could be refreshingly new. In the way I live there might be something fresh too. For example, only brushing one's teeth right before bed. My own quirks."
He continued, "It was a rambling talk but the most important thing is to transform into content that unflinchingly and unadornedly shows everyday life, so please show steady and slightly amplifying interest. Like these days' KOSPI-like love — keeping rising. Even if it's not an upper limit every morning, just consistently rising interest is enough. Please spread the word a lot. Kyung Wan is really pitiful. I'll show that side of me so please encourage and cheer for me, spread the word, and take more interest. I'll work hard anyway," he said, lowering his head with choked-up emotion and adding a laugh.
