Comedian Yang Sang-guk bowed his head after the attitude controversy.
The June 16 broadcast of MBC Hangout With Yoo was the "War of Money in Changwon" episode, showing Yu Jae-seok, Haha, Joo Woo-jae, Heo Kyunghwan, Yang Sang-guk and Lee Seon-min visiting Changwon.
On that day Yu Jae-seok saw Yang Sang-guk and said, "Sang-guk, you've lost a lot of weight. Are you okay?" as a worried first greeting. Joo Woo-jae also asked, "Are you okay, hyungnim?", and Haha likewise expressed concern, saying, "Sang-guk, you were really shocked, right?"
Then Yang Sang-guk confessed, "I almost went back to my hometown." Yu Jae-seok offered a cutting joke, "Even the people in your hometown kind of changed their minds," and Heo Kyunghwan chimed in, "They were taking down banners in Gimhae and then put them back up, right?"
This referred to the earlier-raised attitude controversy involving Yang Sang-guk. Yang Sang-guk recently drew viewers' criticism for outdated remarks and behavior on tvN Amazing Saturday and Pinggaego.
At the time, on Pinggaego Yang Sang-guk said, "For us (in Gyeongsang Province), we don't bring (a girlfriend) at all. In my view, if you are not going to do it for life, it's better not to do it," and toward Yu Jae-seok, who tried to defuse the situation, he also said, "Mr. Yu Jae-seok, say that one more time and I'll punish you."
Moreover, on Amazing Saturday he completely rejected the skit by Kim Haejun and Na Bo-ram, who were performing as the "romantic couple," and with a high-handed attitude he made viewers frown by kicking and making slapping gestures.
As the controversy grew, Yang Sang-guk told OSEN by phone, "I thought I shouldn't speak like that as the 'Gyeongsang man' character people saw in me, so I spoke strongly and in trying to show the expected image I think I crossed the line," and confessed, "In reality I'm not that kind of person, but I unintentionally overacted and made remarks that seem to have made viewers uncomfortable, so I'm sorry."
He continued, "I was really courteous to the people I filmed with at the actual site. But I had a strong thought that I had to be different in front of the camera from who I actually am, so I think I overdid it and caused unnecessary discomfort to viewers and the production staff, so I'm sorry," and bowed his head.
He later also expressed his feelings about the controversy on KBS2 Problem Child in House. In the released preview Yang Sang-guk said, "I'm actually originally very introverted, so when I'm on broadcast I overdo it and said, 'Men don't bring women home like people in Seoul do,'" and he vented, "Where would a woman go home alone? I have to take her home!" in a way that also drew laughter.
Meanwhile on Hangout With Yoo Yang Sang-guk again offered an apology, saying, "If there are people who are uncomfortable..." Seeing this, Yu Jae-seok warned sharply, "What matters now is you must be careful as you become a star," and said, "Just reflect and don't do it again." In response Yang Sang-guk said, "That's right," and showed a solemn attitude.
