Singer Pyeon Seung-yeop confessed that he is raising five half-siblings after three divorces and a fourth marriage.
The 36-year veteran singer Pyeon Seung-yeop candidly shared his feelings about three divorces, scandals and the love story that led to a family through his fourth marriage on MBN's talk show 'Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night.'
On the 25th episode of MBN's 'Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night,' which aired at 9:40 p.m. on the 16th (Sat), the topic figure Pyeon Seung-yeop, who returned to the active stage through 'Unknown Legend,' appeared and said, "Until now I hated being talked about by others, so I didn't talk about it, but now I think it's okay to reveal it," explaining why he announced his fourth marriage after 15 years. Unlike previous marriages, Pyeon Seung-yeop said he and his current wife did not hold a wedding ceremony and confessed, "I was afraid of being alone again." Pyeon Seung-yeop expressed his affection for his wife, saying, "She suffered the most by my side and I'm the one who gave her the least."
Pyeon Seung-yeop said he first met his wife long ago while waterskiing, a hobby, and that they stayed acquaintances until years later when his wife, who had been living in Japan, returned to Korea and they reconnected, starting their relationship. He also said, "It turned out she hadn't married because of me and had been living alone," noting that his wife, two years his junior, was a first-time bride and that he decided to marry because of her devoted love, drawing attention.
Pyeon Seung-yeop also spoke about the difficulties he faced due to three divorces and legal battles tied to scandals during the divorce processes. Although he won the legal battles, he said he felt the negative judgment that followed, adding, "Because of the cold audience it was hard to properly perform on stage," and he had to step away from his singing career and leave the stage. During the hiatus he ran a barbecue restaurant that was thriving enough that customers chartered tour buses to visit, but he said business worsened so much after the mad cow disease crisis that he could no longer afford labor costs and had to close, which added to the sadness of his story.
Pyeon Seung-yeop confessed that he raised with love five half-siblings, including his second daughter Pyeon Su-ji, who inherited his talent and debuted in 2013 as the leader of the girl group 'BPPOP.' Pyeon Seung-yeop, who said he always felt sorry toward his children, said, "Even if they don't contact their father often, they're always in touch with each other," revealing the special bond among the five siblings, and expressed gratitude that his children get along well with his current wife.
Pyeon Seung-yeop also recounted that he volunteered for so-called "twilight childcare," saying, "I wanted to give to my grandchildren what I couldn't give my children." He said he took care of his eldest daughter's children exclusively for three years and proudly boasted about his grandson, saying, "My grandchild has absolute pitch," showing his pride as a grandfather.
Meanwhile, Pyeon Seung-yeop recently appeared on the popular show Unknown Legend, and he said the reason was, "I wanted to show that I'm still an active singer." He opened his mouth and said he expected to be eliminated in the first round, but he was eliminated in third-round selection in 13th place where 10 people were chosen, recalling, "Inside I thought, 'Oh, good, that worked out,'" and confessed the pressure of his first-ever audition. The show also revealed his battle with a urinary condition that he hadn't disclosed on Unknown Legend; he said, "One day I had black urine, not red blood, so I thought that wasn't good and went to the hospital," and thankfully there was no metastasis, the cancerous area was removed, he underwent emergency surgery and has improved a lot.
