'Perfect Crown' Byeon Woo-seok and IU ended with a full happy ending.
In the final episode of the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Perfect Crown' aired on the 16th, Grand Prince Iaan (played by Byeon Woo-seok) and Seong Hee-ju (played by IU) announced the abolition of the monarchy and were depicted returning to life as an ordinary married couple.
Ahead of the royal succession that day, Grand Prince Iaan told Seong Hee-ju, "I will abolish the royal family. Something like a born status becoming a privilege, and becoming a restriction, starts with the royal family." Hearing this, Seong Hee-ju said, "I thought it was a treason, but it was a revolution. That's my dream," and cheered him on.
Grand Prince Iaan asked, "Are you ready to let go of a status you barely have?" but Seong Hee-ju replied, "When did I ever say I wanted to have a status. The opportunities I missed because of that were awful," and Grand Prince Iaan hugged her, saying, "I realized then. You are my revolution."
Grand Prince Iaan declared the abolition of the monarchy before the cabinet and royal relatives, but he met opposition, including from Min Jung-woo (played by Noh Sang Hyun). Min Jung-woo even took the extreme step of cutting the budget to be provided to the royal family. In response, Seong Hee-ju retorted by donating Castle Group's money, saying, "What good is having rich in-laws?"
Min Jung-woo went so far as to investigate Castle Group's slush funds and pressured Yoon Yi-rang (played by Gong Seung-yeon) with the threat, "Do you want to make your son a criminal too?" to lend weight to the opposition to abolishing the monarchy.
In the end, Min Jung-woo's atrocities were exposed by Seong Hee-ju. Seong Hee-ju angrily said, "So you tried to kill him? Economic, diplomatic. Cultural—the royal family exerts influence in every area without exception. Did you try to assassinate the king of this country just because he wanted to abolish the royal family?"
Seong Hee-ju released the recording Yoon Yi-rang had given her. Shocked, Grand Prince Iaan asked Min Jung-woo, "Did you really try to kill me?" Min Jung-woo admitted it and complained, "I begged you. I asked you to push Hee-ju far away, then I said I would protect you, didn't I? It's your fault. It's because of you that I became like this," he said with resentment. Grand Prince Iaan fired back, "It's your fault for thinking you lost something you never even had."
Grand Prince Iaan ultimately said he would decide the abolition of the monarchy by a public vote, and as a result of the vote, the era of the royal family disappeared into history.
Grand Prince Iaan wanted Seong Hee-ju to call him by his name, saying, "I want to be called by a name that is not king." With the completion of the abolition of the monarchy, the two warmly called each other's names, creating a heartwarming moment.
Three years later, Seong Hee-ju returned to the board of directors, and Iwan (played by Byeon Woo-seok) organized the royal assets and established a foundation. But he kept not going to work and lived an ordinary life, being scolded by Choi Hyun (played by Yu Su-bin).
Meanwhile, Iwan wanted to propose to Seong Hee-ju again and have a wedding. On learning this, Seong Hee-ju showed her hurt by saying, "Really?" and "I was sincere from then on, you know? Weren't you?"
When Seong Hee-ju asked since when he had been sincere, Iwan confessed, "Didn't you know from the start? I've liked you for a long time. From the time you first told me your name," and kissed her.
He went on, "Even at midnight I wanted to run like crazy, but you were so famous that I kept hearing about you at school and even after graduation. I thought there would be at least one chance we'd meet, but there really wasn't. Then I saw you at Tanilyeon," recalling the moment they reunited.
Afterward, the two enjoyed a date at the baseball stadium, and when kiss time appeared on the scoreboard, they passionately kissed in front of everyone, making up for the kisses they had missed earlier due to concerns about dignity and creating a flutter.
