'K-grandfather' Kim Jaejoong candidly opened up about his experience freezing sperm and his concerns about having a second generation.
On the 15th episode of KBS2 Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant, Choi Jin-hyuk, Yoon Si-yoon and Yoon Seon-ho gathered at Kim Jaejoong's house and shared realistic conversations about marriage.
Earlier, Kim Jaejoong made headlines last year after announcing his niece's pregnancy on a broadcast and earning the nickname "the first grandfather among idols." At the time, his second older sister said, "You're a grandfather now," and it turned out that his niece and her husband were pregnant, making Kim Jaejoong a 'K-grandfather.'
Afterward, his niece's son was born, and Kim Jaejoong showed affection, saying, "My first grandson after 100 days." He laughed, saying, "To my parents it's a great-grandchild," and, "It feels really strange to be called a grandfather." Kim Jaejoong surprised viewers by revealing that he currently has as many as 34 family members and saying, "It seems it will expand even more."
During the broadcast, the conversation naturally turned to marriage and children. Kim Jaejoong surprised everyone by confessing, "I am thinking about marriage," and "I have tried freezing my sperm." He vividly described the experience, saying, "I wanted to prepare for a healthy child."
Kim Jaejoong recalled, "At the first consultation the doctor told me to take off my pants as soon as he saw me," and said, "They started by checking if everything looked normal on the outside." He recounted the embarrassing moment, "After the tests you go into the real 'room of truth'," which drew laughter. He explained, "There is a golden time: it's a problem if sperm comes out too early or too late," and added, "Even that was a test. I was embarrassed twice."
Yoon Seon-ho comforted him, saying, "It's nothing to be ashamed of. Isn't it for a healthy child?" But Kim Jaejoong also shared practical concerns. He said, "Frozen sperm isn't stored as long as I thought," and, "It gets disposed of after about three to five years. I wondered, 'Is it this short?'" He revealed, "What I froze has now been disposed of because the period expired," and said, "I only did it once." About future plans he added, "I don't think I'll do it again."
At the end of the broadcast Kim Jaejoong left a realistic review, saying, "For those who will freeze [their sperm] in the future, especially entertainers, keep this in mind," which prompted laughter.
