Actor Kim Sa-rang has been confirmed to have already paid all taxes in full in relation to the national tax delinquency controversy.
According to OSEN reporting on the 16th, Kim Sa-rang paid the delinquent taxes on the 9th and has now fully settled all outstanding amounts.
The previous day, a media outlet reported that Kim Sa-rang had her APT. in Gimpo seized by tax authorities due to national tax delinquency. The official assessed price of the condominium for that APT. was 366 million won as of January, and the recent actual transaction price reaches 600 million won. However, because real estate seizures proceed by lot or unit number, even if the delinquent amount is considerably smaller than the assessed price, the entire property is known to be subject to seizure.
Meanwhile, OSEN confirmed that Kim Sa-rang had already completed payment of the delinquent amount on the 9th, before the related reports were published. A close associate of Kim Sa-rang explained, "She received a first notice about the tax delinquency around March, learned of the delinquency and began paying taxes from May 8. Payments were made over two days on the 8th and 9th, and now there is nothing delinquent at all."
Although reports indicated that the Gimpo APT. was seized on April 6, it was confirmed that Kim Sa-rang had not been aware of the real estate seizure. A close associate said, "The seizure occurred in the process of preparing payment. Even after paying the taxes she did not know, and only learned of the seizure after seeing the reports. She had already completed payment before the reports came out, and she emphasized that she has paid even the recently reported comprehensive income tax."
In fact, under the National Tax Collection Act there is no obligation to give prior notice of seizure. After sending a demand notice, a seizure can proceed without separate prior notification. Also, even after paying the delinquent amount, one must apply for release of the seizure with supporting documents for the tax authorities to review before it can be removed from the certified copy of the register. That is also why information about the seizure remains on the certified copy of Kim Sa-rang's APT.
Kim Sa-rang's side said, "It was wrong that the taxes were delinquent. We will make sure this does not happen again," and added, "We will carefully confirm so that taxes can be paid faithfully without missing deadlines."
