Actor Oh Jung-se will hunt for laughs at the box office this summer with a distinctly different visual transformation.
Known for his exceptional ability to inhabit characters and for standing out in every role, Oh Jung-se teases a completely opposite, 180-degree charm in the film Wild Sing (director Son Jae-gon), drawing attention.
Wild Sing, which opens in theaters on June 3, is a comedy about a once-popular mixed-gender trio dance group, "Triangle," that swept the music scene but disbanded after an unexpected incident and now makes a reckless attempt to seize a comeback opportunity 20 years later. Oh Jung-se passionately plays Seong-gon, the rival of "Triangle" and an ill-fated balladeer.
The newly released stills instantly show the dramatic contrast between Seong-gon's past as a "heartthrob hunter" who once dominated the music scene and his present life as a "real hunter," provoking laughter.
On stage 20 years ago, Seong-gon sports soft, medium-length straight hair paired with a white blouse and sings passionately with a deep gaze, embodying the archetype of the "earroom boyfriend." Especially notable is how he slightly covers one eye with his bangs to add a mysterious air, showcasing the elegant aura of the ballad prince who once made women's hearts flutter. Seong-gon is a tragic figure who once achieved the unprecedented record of 39 consecutive weeks at No. 2, and the gap between his past glory and present state is expected to be a comic point.
In contrast, another released still shocks with a powerful visual that makes it hard to believe it's the same person. Against a backdrop of dense forest instead of flashy lights, he roams the wild with a hunting rifle slung over his shoulder; his rough curly hair and unkempt beard make him literally a "man of nature." The solemn energy of Seong-gon, who left the entertainment industry to become a hunter chasing harmful wild animals, raises expectations for the unpredictable chemistry he will bring when he reunites with the "Triangle" members.
