Voice actress Wakana Yamazaki, who voiced Ran Mori in the animation "Detective Conan," died after battling an illness.
On the 15th, local media including Yahoo Japan reported that Wakana Yamazaki passed away on the 18th of last month while battling a chronic illness. She was 61.
Her agency, Aoni Production, said, "Wakana Yamazaki had been receiving treatment for an illness but ultimately did not recover and passed away on April 18. We are grateful for the warm support shown to the deceased, and the funeral was held privately with only family and relatives in attendance." It was reported that the notice of Wakana Yamazaki's death was delivered belatedly at the request of the bereaved family after all funeral rites had been completed.
Wakana Yamazaki had been the dedicated voice of Ran Mori from the first broadcast of "Detective Conan" in 1996. Ran Mori is Shinichi Kudo's childhood friend and the daughter of detective Kogoro Mori, and she is the heroine of the work. Having voiced Ran Mori for about 30 years, Wakana Yamazaki suspended activities in March due to worsening health, and the role of Ran Mori is currently voiced by Akemi Okamura.
Wakana Yamazaki was active in animations such as "Sally the Witch," "Chibi Maruko-chan," "Crayon Shin-chan," "Dragon Ball," "Pokémon," "Yu-Gi-Oh!," "One Piece," "Fly! Anpanman," and "Inuyasha."
