Actor Jang Dong-ju suddenly announced his retirement.
On the 15th, Jang Dong-ju declared his retirement on his social media, saying, "As of today I will lay down my life as actor Jang Dong-ju. Although I am leaving the stage, I will never forget the hearts you have given me."
Jang Dong-ju said, "Living for a long time under the name actor, I received so much love and support. All the moments I laughed and cried in front of the camera were the most shining times of my life," adding, "I sincerely thank the directors, staff members and fellow actors who believed in and stayed with me. Above all, thanks to the fans who always stayed by my side, I was able to walk to the end happily."
Earlier, Jang Dong-ju said he had experienced hacking and extortion incidents. He said he received a call last summer from an unknown number and "the other party knew my movement route exactly, and my phone had been completely hacked," adding, "From that day until today not a single day passed that wasn't like hell."
Jang Dong-ju, who tried to escape by changing his number three times but failed each time, said that financial damage ballooned uncontrollably in the process, and that his family even sold the house they lived in to raise money, but the debt that arose from the urgent funds led to other liabilities and the amount of damage grew.
Jang Dong-ju said, "We even lost my family's happiness, and before I knew it a lot of the love I had caused was hurt," and in January he said, "After being extorted by hacking I used any means to borrow money. I am truly sorry to those harmed because of me. I will get my act together and pay back every last won without exception."
Meanwhile, Jang Dong-ju rose to fame with the drama School 2017 and remained active until recently, appearing in works such as No Tail to Tell, which starred Kim Hyeyoon and others.
