'Radio Star' Choi Tae-sung confessed that he ranks second in textbook sales revenue.
On the 13th broadcast of MBC variety show 'Radio Star' (hereinafter 'Ras'), in a 'Passionately devoted teachers for Teacher's Day' special, Seo Kyung-seok, Choi Tae-sung, Kim Sung-eun and Hwang Min-ho appeared and talked about various topics.
In 2017 Choi Tae-sung made headlines by announcing free lectures in the history of private education. He recalled, "My lectures can be attended without paying a single won," and said, "When I appeared in 2017 I started free Korean history lectures. When I announced I would do it, each academy went into emergency mode."
He said an unprecedented event occurred. Choi Tae-sung said, "Famous teachers at each academy began to declare free lectures. It was an impossible thing. I was criticized a lot as a market disorderer."
Then Kim Gu Ra asked, "So how do you earn revenue?" Choi Tae-sung opened up, saying, "My lectures are not text-focused but are board writing. The reason I write on the board is to tell students to just bring a notebook and pen. I want there to be no barriers for people who take my lectures."
He continued, "I had no intention of generating revenue from textbooks, but in the comments people said the board writing must be drawn and students were struggling. So I released a textbook. It sold enormously. The person who sold the most textbooks in Korea is a math teacher at a certain academy. It's about 900,000 copies, and I am second."
Choi Tae-sung added, "I really did not intend it. What I learned at that time is that even if you do some public work you can live without big problems, and it seemed to give people courage."<
