Actor Kang Ha-kyung showed an irresistible, singular charm in The Legend of Kitchen Soldier.
On the 11th and 12th, in the TVING original The Legend of Kitchen Soldier (written by Choi Ryong, directed by Jo Nam-hyung) episodes 1 and 2, Kang Ha-kyung played Corporal Kim Gwan-cheol, the influential figure at Ganglimsocho and the head of Barracks 2, alternating freely between biting insults and sly comic acting.
In the first broadcast that day, Kim Gwan-cheol and Sergeant Yoon Dong-hyun (played by Lee Hongnae) displayed a constantly bickering, opposite-chemistry that drew laughs. In particular, Kang Ha-kyung completed the annoying yet lovable Kim Gwan-cheol character with sly acting. While delivering a cutting remark toward Yoon Dong-hyun's cooking, saying, "Isn't this a fatal wound if you eat it, not a birthday table?" he added laughter with his characteristic everyday acting. In an imagined scene where he eats stir-fried sausages and is hit by a sausage bomb, he pleaded desperately to be spared, provoking uproarious laughter. Kang Ha-kyung demonstrated the true value of comic acting with vivid facial expressions and gestures.
Meanwhile, Kim Gwan-cheol teased Yoon Dong-hyun by saying that company commander Hwang Seok-ho (played by Lee Sang Yi) had taken Kang Seong-jae to TOD. Then, toward soldiers who unusually enjoyed the bean sprout soup, he threatened, "I hate people joking about food more than anything in the world." However, after tasting the soup himself, he surprised again by grabbing the tray and devouring it, bringing another laugh. Kang Ha-kyung cleverly portrayed Kim Gwan-cheol barely regaining his senses with bean sprouts in his mouth, amplifying the character's charm.
