Macaulay Culkin, an actor in the film 'Home Alone,' revealed he felt "a debt left unpaid" toward Catherine O'Hara, who played his mother in the film.
Culkin said in a recent interview with The Gentleman's Journal, "I was really shocked when Catherine passed away this January. It was a far too early farewell."
He continued, "I feel there was something between us that was never properly finished. I truly think there was something left unfinished with her," and said, "I felt indebted to her. I don't like having debts left unpaid."
Macaulay Culkin and Catherine O'Hara appeared together in the 1990 film 'Home Alone' and the 1992 'Home Alone 2.' Culkin played the lead role of Kevin, and O'Hara played Kevin's mother, Kate McCallister. Both films gained worldwide popularity and are still regarded as among the most notable works of the Christmas season.
The two officially reunited earlier at Culkin's Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony in December 2023. At the time, O'Hara introduced Culkin, praising him, "His acting was perfect. An actor who makes acting look like the most natural thing," and said, "Thank you for inviting the fake mother who left you home alone not once but twice. I'm really proud of you."
In particular, a moment late in the ceremony when Culkin and O'Hara embraced and teared up was captured, moving those at the scene. The two also shared a warm hug.
Catherine O'Hara passed away on Jan. 30 at her home in Los Angeles after a short battle with illness. She was 71.
