Director Jang Hang-jun opened up about his disappointment at the moment the Baeksang Awards announced the male best actor winner.
On the 13th broadcast of MBC FM4U's Two O'Clock Date with Ahn Young-mi, director Jang Hang-jun of the film The King's Warden, which drew 16.84 million viewers and ranked second on the all-time box office, appeared as a guest.
On the day, Ahn Young-mi congratulated him, saying, 'Congratulations on The King's Warden winning three Baeksang Arts Awards.' Previously, at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards held recently, The King's Warden won the male newcomer acting award (Park Jihoon), the grand prize (Yoo Hai Jin) and the Gucci Impact Award, among others.

He said regretfully, 'Jeon Mi-do was also a nominee for best supporting actress, but Jeon Mi-do came without any expectations. She came so bright that I felt at ease. I also talked with Ji-tae, and between him and me we thought there might be a chance even if we didn't say it out loud, but senior Lee Sung-min was such a strong contender.'
Ahn Young-mi said, 'In a way, you can think the right people won,' and asked, 'Then the afterparty for the The King's Warden team must have been in great spirits. Everyone won an award after all,' and Jang Hang-jun said, 'Actually, wasn't Yoo Hai Jin a nominee for best actor? But the best actor went to Park Jeongmin of Face. Face is a film I like and he did so well. Everything inside it was so well done, but I thought, "If Yoo Hai Jin didn't get best actor, are we being completely snubbed now?"' He revealed he was greatly disappointed at the time.
He said, 'Among ourselves, everyone agreed that Yoo Hai Jin was definitely certain for best actor. But when we heard Yoo Hai Jin didn't win, we wondered, "What's going on?" Suddenly Yoo Hai Jin's name was announced for the grand prize and everyone cheered. Did you see that? It was like the moment the decision to host the 1988 Seoul Olympics was announced. When Yoo Hai Jin won the grand prize everyone literally leaped. So on the way to the afterparty the mood was very good and at the afterparty we toasted properly,' conveying his joy.
