It has been five years since M.C The Max member Jiyun passed away.
The late Jiyun was found dead at his home in Seogyo-dong, Mapo District, Seoul, on May 13, 2021. He was 39.
At the time, the Seoul Mapo Police Station received a report about concerns for the late Jiyun's safety. The agency later issued an official statement saying, "M.C The Max member Jiyun has left our side," which left many in shock.
Two months before the late singer's death, M.C The Max released a 20th anniversary album, and shortly after the news of his death was reported, causing great sorrow.
The agency asked, "In the face of this sudden news, all M.C The Max members and the executives and employees of 325 E&C are mourning the deceased with deep sorrow. Please pray for the late Jiyun's peaceful rest and
we earnestly ask that speculative articles be refrained from," they urged.
The late Jiyun's funeral was held privately due to the COVID-19 situation. His remains were laid to rest in the United States, where his family lives.
Jiyun debuted in 2000 with the band Moonchild. After fellow member Heo Jeong-min left and became an actor, the remaining members Lee Su and Jeon Min-hyeok changed the group's name from Moonchild to M.C The Max and began performing under the new name.
In addition to his music career, Jiyun made special appearances in SBS's Let's Go and KBS2's Run, My Mom, among others, and pursued acting. Notably, in 2012 he appeared on SBS's Lunar New Year special Star Love Village Match, revealing he was a popular commercial jingle composer, which became a topic of interest.
