'Im Seong-han's man' actor Jeong I-chan took off his cold doctor's gown and returned with the fresh face of a 20-something youth.
Jeong I-chan recently, through a photo shoot and interview for the June issue of the magazine 'AtStyle', frankly revealed everything from behind-the-scenes stories of the drama Doctor Shin to his extraordinary aspirations as a 'door-leading male lead'.
In this photo spread, Jeong I-chan presented a completely different, reversed charm 180 degrees from the cool genius doctor 'Shin Ju-shin'. With a physique comparable to a model, he moved freely between masculinity and refreshing charm, reportedly drawing admiration from the on-site staff.
Three years after his debut, Jeong I-chan, who landed the title role in Im Seong-han writer's new work, recalled the audition that felt like a movie. He said, "I even attached a hairpiece to my short hair to match the image the writer wanted," and added, "When I went to the set, there were so many actors wearing white gowns that it felt like a 'doctor selection contest,'" showing his witty storytelling. He also showed an uncharacteristic boldness for a rookie, saying he tried to maintain a poker face like his character when he heard he had been chosen as the lead.
The preparation process was truly 'blood, sweat and tears.' Jeong I-chan said, "It was almost like the life of an idol trainee. For about 10 hours a day, five lead actors rehearsed the script together," conveying the effort he poured in to complete a distinctive character.
A special episode with writer Im Seong-han drew attention. Jeong I-chan confessed, "The writer told me to call her comfortably, so I called her 'noona' and used informal speech throughout the shoot," which surprised people. But after the show ended, when he habitually continued to call her "noona," the writer playfully drew the line by saying, "Jusin, that's enough now~," an anecdote that provoked laughter.
He, who before the broadcast had changed his stage name and was sometimes misunderstood as acting on the writer Im Seong-han's encouragement, clearly drew a line, saying, "That's not true at all. I decided it myself because I wanted to start my leading-debut work with a new mindset as an actor."
Finally, regarding being counted among the 'door-leading male leads' representing those born in the 2000s alongside Moon Sang Min and Lee Chae-min, Jeong I-chan expressed bold aspirations, saying, "I get good stimulation seeing my high school friend Sang-min do well," and "Next, I want to take on bubbly romantic comedies or youth pieces with peers."
