"Perfect Crown" is drawing high attention as it nears its finale.
Recently airing MBC Friday-Saturday drama "Perfect Crown" (written by Yoo Ji-won, directed by Park Joon-hwa·Bae Hee-young) has dominated ratings, buzz and global OTT rankings.
First, in the ratings category, according to Nielsen Korea's tally, as of episode 10 broadcast on the 9th it recorded 13.5% in the Seoul metropolitan area, 13.3% nationwide and 5.6% in the 20-54 demographic. Both the Seoul metropolitan and nationwide figures rose sharply, marking the show's highest ratings for two consecutive days.
Moreover, both episodes 9 and 10 of "Perfect Crown" ranked first in overall program ratings for Friday and Saturday in the Seoul metropolitan area, nationwide and in the 20-54 demographic. It appears to have firmly held the weekend terrestrial ratings market, not only among Friday-Saturday dramas.
Meanwhile, FUNdex published by Gooddata Corporation shows that the TV-OTT drama buzz metric also has "Perfect Crown" at No. 1. "Perfect Crown," which had held the top spot even before broadcast, has not lost the No. 1 position since its premiere.
According to the announcement on the 12th, it ranked first in all components that make up buzz—news, videos and VON. In TV-OTT drama cast buzz, IU (playing Seong Hee-ju) ranked second and Byeon Woo-seok (playing Prince Ian) ranked first, placing them in the top tier for six consecutive weeks.
On global OTTs, "Perfect Crown" is also showing strength. According to global OTT ranking aggregator FlixPatrol, "Perfect Crown" ranked third globally in Disney+ top 10 TV shows and first among non-English titles.
Since its premiere it has consistently stayed in the upper ranks, topping the charts in 15 countries including Japan, Taiwan, Brazil and Peru, with particularly overwhelming popularity in Latin America. It ranked second in Korea and Mexico and Italy, third in Sweden and Canada, and entered the top 10 in a total of 47 countries.
Among them, on U.S. Disney+ "Perfect Crown" has been running strong for 29 days. It is said to have demonstrated its popularity by gaining steady popularity across regions including Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia.
However, apart from the high numbers, domestic viewers' likes and dislikes for "Perfect Crown" are sharply divided. While its familiar romantic comedy material and dazzling visuals are strengths, critics say its weak plausibility and blurred causal relationships, stemming from focusing only on dramatic entertainment, are its shortcomings.
"Perfect Crown" is set to end with episode 12 (final episode) on the 19th. Attention is focused on whether the work can maintain high numbers through to the end and persuade viewers. <
