From actor Kim Bin-woo to Ki Eun-se, recently celebrities' behavior beyond common sense has caused frowns. They have been criticized for actions that could be called "celebrity entitlement," such as playing music and broadcasting in an APT. in the early morning and causing trouble to neighbors with remodeling work on single-family homes.
On the 11th, a video of Kim Bin-woo doing a TikTok live broadcast spread mainly on online communities. In the video, Kim Bin-woo wore flashy illuminated glasses, held a microphone, danced to the music and even sang.
The problem was that the broadcast took place at 1 a.m. Because an APT. is a multiunit dwelling, it is inevitably sensitive to noise between floors. Therefore, it is common courtesy to avoid running washing machines late at night. Nevertheless, Kim Bin-woo broadcast from a multiunit APT., playing music and even singing in the early morning.
A netizen asked, "Is it an APT.?" and Kim Bin-woo reportedly replied, "It's the first floor." But even on the first floor, noise between floors can still occur sufficiently.
Kim Bin-woo went ahead with the broadcast without properly recognizing the noise-between-floors issue and eventually apologized amid pouring criticism. He apologized that day, saying, "I am deeply reflecting on my thoughtlessness. I will be more careful going forward. I am sorry."
The celebrity entitlement controversy previously engulfed Ki Eun-se as well. In March, Ki Eun-se announced on her YouTube channel that she was moving to Pyeongchang-dong. She revealed that construction was underway, saying, "Nothing has been incorporated design-wise and the house is so old that many facilities need to be repaired. Right now we are thoroughly checking the facilities before interior work," and showed the ongoing construction.
But netizen A, who said her parents are residents next door to Ki Eun-se, raised concerns on her SNS, saying, "I lived in the U.S. and came back to my parents' home in Pyeongchang-dong, Korea, after a long time, and seeing the construction status next door is really something to behold. I've heard actress Ki Eun-se moved in and that repairs have been going on for months, and the alley in front of the house is occupied by construction vehicles so residents find it hard for even one car to pass. The construction waste and dust are everywhere and the neighborhood isn't even being properly cleaned."
Later A said, "I complained out of frustration, but thank you for the attention. She sent a DM apologizing," saying she had received an apology message from Ki Eun-se. But afterward she continued posting photos of construction vehicles parked in the alley and vented, "They don't seem willing to improve at all. Cars have a hard time getting out of the alley next door."
A short time later she posted, "After I uploaded today's site photos, the site manager visited. I received a promise that parking and trash issues will be corrected going forward," and said, "The construction will continue until May 15, and after that separate parking lot construction will follow. I hope this matter is wrapped up without people showing each other up and that the construction finishes with mutual consideration," indicating the situation had been settled for now.
Ki Eun-se's agency Sublime said, "We acknowledge that during the interior construction at the villa Ki Eun-se planned to move into about two weeks ago, there were complaints from some residents about parking inconvenience and cleanliness. After recognizing this, she apologized to the residents who raised the concerns, completed cleaning of the neighborhood, and took quick measures to address vehicle traffic inconvenience. In addition, the site and surrounding area are being cleaned daily and efforts are being made to maintain cleanliness."
Ki Eun-se also captured and released a conversation with A on the 8th. In that DM, Ki Eun-se apologized, saying, "First, I'm sorry for causing inconvenience. This is the first house I bought with the money I earned, and as I started wanting to do more things, the construction schedule became a bit prolonged. Because construction included winter and there were long periods when work couldn't proceed, it took longer than expected. I asked for understanding and greeted the same villa's residents, but I failed to consider the houses around and that was my oversight."
Ki Eun-se explained, "Construction vehicles have been coming in and it must have been very inconvenient; I'm very sorry for the trouble. The building itself doesn't have an elevator so a crane had to be brought in... As I oversaw the construction, there were many unforeseen situations. I wasn't at the site continuously and only heard reports on progress, so I didn't know residents had been inconvenienced until this morning when I first learned of it."
She added, "I spoke with the interior team today and asked them to minimize inconvenience as much as possible. About two more weeks of construction remain, and big vehicles will come only two or three more times including the moving truck. We'll try to make sure it doesn't cause much inconvenience! Please be generous. I'll come to greet you before I move in," she repeated, apologizing.
This controversy appears to reflect celebrity entitlement revealed in everyday life rather than a simple incident. Because they are in positions that attract public attention, celebrities should prioritize basic public order and consideration for others, but Kim Bin-woo and Ki Eun-se failed to properly observe both and were criticized. Being a celebrity means they should act more cautiously.
