The group BTS completely dyed Mexico City purple. For their return after 10 years, inside and outside the venue it was truly a "festival," and the economic ripple effects created by BTS exceeded imagination.
BTS held "BTS WORLD TOUR 'ARIRANG' IN MEXICO CITY" at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City for three days on the 7th and the 9th–10th (local time), performing to about 150,000 spectators. This concert marked the group's first full-group solo concert in Mexico in about 10 years and 10 months since 2015, and tickets sold out for all three shows as soon as sales began.
That day BTS captivated local fans with unmatched live vocals and choreography executed with clockwork precision. Especially during the "Airplane pt.2" stage, when the lyric "We goin' from Mexico City" rang out, the arena was filled with deafening cheers. The song, chosen spontaneously by the members, became an unforgettable gift for local fans.
Details that incorporated local culture also shone. On the "Aliens" stage, dancers wearing masks from the Mexican traditional pro wrestling "lucha libre" appeared and energized the crowd, and member V enjoying the Mexican snack "banderilla" during the "IDOL" performance spread in real time on social media, prompting explosive reactions from ARMYs worldwide.
The heat spread beyond the venue walls to the entire city. According to local authorities, about 35,000 fans who could not get tickets gathered around the venue, temporarily closing nearby roads.
On this, the Los Angeles Times noted, "It is rare for a boy band to become a matter of international diplomatic interest," focusing on the Mexican president's official invitation and the ticket war that drew more than 1 million people. The coverage suggested BTS's activities are more than concerts—they are a cultural phenomenon and a diplomatic event.
The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimated that the economic impact of the concerts, including ticket sales, lodging and tourism spending, would reach about $107.5 million (about 15.57 billion won). With lodging alone generating about 24.6 billion won in revenue, the concerts played a major role in revitalizing the local economy, proving the might of "BTSnomics."
BTS expressed heartfelt thanks in Spanish, saying, "You were truly the best. We will never forget the energy that continued from the Zócalo square."
Having successfully completed their Mexico schedule, BTS now heads to North America. They are set to continue the tour's momentum at Stanford Stadium in the United States on the 16th–17th and the 19th. With the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) already announcing plans to operate special bus routes for concertgoers, the group's movements are even stirring city infrastructure.
