Actor Gang Dong-won returns this summer as an 'idol-making fairy' who will shoot straight for the hearts of audiences of all ages.
The film Wild Sing (director Son Jae-gon, opens June 3) released exclusive stage stills of Gang Dong-won as Hyun Woo, the leader of the mixed-gender dance group "Triangle" and a dance machine, drawing attention. In the released photos, Gang Dong-won overwhelms the eye with what can only be called a "visual ahead of its time."
What stands out most in the newly released stills is Gang Dong-won's daring styling. He flawlessly pulls off oversized wide pants that evoked the street sensibility that dominated the early 2000s, as well as the still-hip "bob bridge" hairstyle.
In particular, the way he sensibly matched then-fashionable items such as goggles on his head and gloves on his hands gives off a singular aura befitting the "original face genius." His deep gaze toward the audience and overwhelming physique already foreshadow the birth of an 'idol-making fairy' who will captivate both the female and male audiences at theaters.
Gang Dong-won's transformation is not limited to visuals. To fully realize the character known as a "dance machine," he reportedly underwent intense choreography practice for as long as five months.
In the stills, Gang Dong-won not only shows graceful dance lines using his long limbs but also performs a high-difficulty "freeze" move supported on one hand, drawing admiration. Yang Wook, the choreographer responsible for the actual performance, praised him, saying, "He knows how to make dance look good. Thanks to his overwhelming physique, he has an exceptional ability to express things with just small touches."
At an earlier production briefing, Gang Dong-won said, "After preparing it myself, I felt once again how great idols are, and I came to respect them," offering a humble reflection that added warmth.
Wild Sing is a comedy about a three-member mixed-gender group called "Triangle" that swept the music scene but disbanded due to an unexpected incident, and their reckless challenge as they dream of a comeback 20 years later. Expectations are high to see what kind of synergy Gang Dong-won's radical transformation and director Son Jae-gon's sensuous direction will produce.<
