Movie poster design heavyweight designer Park Si-young shared a cool yet weighty conviction about the public scrutiny surrounding her and updated on her recent situation.
On the 11th, Park Si-young posted on her social media a candid message about her identity and professionalism, which recently became a hot topic.
Park Si-young drew a line, saying, "The reason I design well is because I work hard. It's not because I'm gay," and emphasized that her competence is the result of constant effort unrelated to her identity. She delivered a cutting remark, saying, "If teachers' incompetence is not because they are men or women, then my competence has nothing to do with my identity."
She added, "I can't live as a gay person 24 hours a day. The idea that my identity would consume my entire life is absurd," and appended her life philosophy: "I want to live in various ways— as someone's senior, as a deputy minister, as a colleague, as the neighbor's bachelor, as The Man from Nowhere, as a farmer." This offers a glimpse into her solid inner self that aspires to a multifaceted life as a human being rather than being trapped in a particular frame.
Saying she is currently spending time on a southernmost island, she expressed satisfaction, "The past few days I really spent truly good times with good friends. The weather was nice and I'm extremely happy." She especially conveyed a peaceful daily life, saying, "On the island where I live there are more people looking at the sea than at their phones, so it's calm regardless of this commotion."
At the end of the post she did not forget her trademark humorous request that made readers laugh, saying, "If you're going to run an article, please use pretty photos. If it's going to be a sensational article that has nothing to do with facts anyway, at least let the photos be pretty!"
Designer Park Si-young has built a distinctive position by creating posters for numerous masterpieces such as the films The Face Reader, The Wailing, Our Body, House of Hummingbird, Megi, Good Boy, Our Unwritten Seoul, and The King's Warden.
Earlier, last month Park Si-young shared on her personal social media, "For 15 years my heart has been stirring. I feel like I'm going crazy because I like it," posting a photo taken with a same-sex partner, and after it became a topic of conversation she deleted the post.
Then on the 9th she appeared on the YouTube channel Watcha, and in response to comedian Won So-yoon's question, "I'm curious if you have anything you'd like to boast about recently," Park Si-young opened up, "I don't know if I should be talking about this, but I recently boasted about my partner a bit on Instagram."
She continued, "I woke up on Sunday morning and the dog I raised had died, so every morning I look at photos. As I look, photos taken with my partner come up naturally, and they're so pretty. There are moments when this feeling really wells up," she said. She added, "They were so pretty that I boasted that I had a partner like this and showed off all sorts of things. About my feelings. But then it appeared in The Chosun Ilbo and the sports papers... so coming out at forty was very embarrassing," she confessed.
She also revealed deep affection for her partner, saying, "If you honestly ask me what I want to proudly show off from deep in my heart, I want to carry my partner and show them off everywhere. I want to ride with them and walk through the middle of Myeong-dong."
