Actor Jeong Yun-min released a two-shot photo with Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, and after it became a hot topic she explained it was AI; when controversy arose she reiterated her position and appealed that she was wronged. As a result, there has been heated debate online.
On the 11th Jeong Yun-min said the two-shot photo with Brad Pitt posted on the 9th was a composite image made with AI and posted an explanation saying, "I was also frightened that it is possible to create real people and backgrounds this precisely, so I shared it lightly with the intention of raising awareness... unintentionally it received great attention."
However, the controversy grew after Jeong Yun-min's explanation. Because of Jeong Yun-min's photo, rumors such as "unofficial Brad Pitt visit to Korea" and "Brad Pitt sighting in Bukchon" spread among netizens, and when concerns arose that his silence could amount to invasion of portrait rights and spreading false information, he belatedly issued a statement.
As related articles continued, Jeong Yun-min on the same day issued another statement saying, "First, I apologize to everyone who knows me for causing confusion. But belated explanation? I am more baffled. I posted one photo lightly on my personal account to warn acquaintances who know me about the dangers of AI technology, and I did not expect it to be distorted like this," she wrote.
She continued, "The most outrageous thing is that I never asked for an article, yet reporters themselves took my feed without permission and turned it into an article," and she protested, "But now you frame it as a 'belated explanation,' as if I enjoyed this situation and am only cleaning it up belatedly?"
Jeong Yun-min also said, "It wasn't that I enjoyed the reactions for two days; I was just watching because it was absurd that my everyday space was being turned into articles and judged without permission," and added, "I deeply regret the attitude of putting a sensational headline to drive clicks, placing an individual at the center of controversy and then calling it a 'ridiculous explanation.'"
Jeong Yun-min said, "One thing has become clear from this happening. More frightening than AI technology is the 'reality' of people spreading things without fact-checking and framing someone to make them look foolish," and added, "an article more frightening than AI."
After the photo Jeong Yun-min posted, unofficial rumors of Brad Pitt visiting Korea and sighting reports in Bukchon spread online. However, Brad Pitt is reportedly staying in Ireland to shoot a new film.
There are reactions that Jeong Yun-min showed an attitude of shifting responsibility by adding, without a direct apology for distributing a fake photo using AI, "Everyone, be careful not to be fooled by fake photos," while others argue that responsibility for the original post is also necessary.
