Recently, comedian Yang Sang-guk, who faced heavy public criticism over attitude controversies, is returning to the program that helped relaunch him as a variety show star, 'Hangout With Yoo'.
On the end of the MBC variety show Hangout With Yoo broadcast on the 9th, a preview for next week's episode aired. The episode is planned as a 'War of Money in Changwon' special in which the members directly visit Jo Woo-jae's hometown, Changwon, Gyeongnam.
What caught viewers' attention above all was the return appearance of Yang Sang-guk as a guest. In the preview video Yang Sang-guk introduced a new guest himself saying, "I invited one younger sibling," and the identity of the sibling he brought was revealed to be comedian Lee Seon-min, piquing curiosity about the full broadcast.
However, despite Yang Sang-guk's bright appearance, viewers' reactions are mixed. This is because the 'unfavorable' image that stuck to him due to recent attitude controversies he showed on several broadcasts still strongly remains in the public's mind.
Earlier, Yang Sang-guk appeared as Heo Kyunghwan's close younger brother in a previous 'War of Money' special on Hangout With Yoo, was reexamined after delivering explosive laughter to viewers with his distinctive talk and wronged character. After that, love calls from the broadcasting industry poured in, and he seemed to sweep the flagship programs of each broadcaster — Radio Star, My Little Old Boy, Omniscient Interfering View, You Quiz on the Block, Amazing Saturday, and others — rising to a second heyday and becoming a trend.
But what tripped up his soaring success was none other than his 'mouth' and 'attitude.' Yang Sang-guk appeared on the popular web variety show Pinggeggo hosted by Yu Jae-seok, who discovered him, and while talking about Nam Chang Hee's newlywed life, he sparked controversy by forcing a firm and anachronistic patriarchal view of dating.
Also, although Yu Jae-seok tried to gently smooth over the situation fearing the remarks might go astray, Yang Sang-guk suddenly drew a line toward his senior Yu Jae-seok by saying "Mr. Yu Jae-seok," and showed an arrogant and rude attitude by saying, "If you say it one more time, I'll scold you," causing viewers to frown.
As criticism surged over his crossed line behavior, Yang Sang-guk ultimately bowed his head on his SNS saying, "I am very sorry for causing discomfort. I will be more careful going forward." However, criticism continued that he still showed rude behavior that seemed inconsiderate of others on other broadcasts after the apology, and the public's disappointment has not easily recovered.
From the moment he was cheered as a raw gem of variety to standing at the center of an attitude controversy, Yang Sang-guk's roller-coaster path has drawn attention to whether he can overcome the controversy through this broadcast and win back the hearts of viewers who turned away with a changed appearance.
