Ayane, wife of singer and actor Lee Ji-hoon, explained the daycare candy controversy.
Earlier, on the 7th Ayane posted on her social media, "it was a bit shocking," saying she found candy in her daughter Ruhee's daycare bag.
She said Ruhee is still on a no-salt diet and "she only ate puffed rice snacks and I didn't give her vitamin candy. But yesterday, candy wrappers were found in the bag brought home from daycare," and added, "because she didn't yet know sweetness, even when snacks came from the hospital or culture center she would only say 'candy candy' but we persuaded her that she shouldn't eat them. But now she has learned that she can eat them," she lamented.
Afterward some internet users criticized, "Don't send her to daycare, raise her at home," and the video of comedian Lee Suji depicting the realistic hardships of daycare teachers was even recalled.
As the controversy grew, Ayane responded directly to critical comments and offered an explanation. She said, "The World Health Organization originally recommends no added salt for children under 24 months. It's not that the daycare is being asked to make only my child no-salt, and is it such a funny thing that we at home are trying our best to keep it?"
She continued, "I don't think every child has to be on a no-salt diet nor do I think feeding salted food is necessarily wrong. But I think everyone equally wants their child to grow up healthy, so I don't understand why being on a no-salt diet becomes a target of ridicule. It doesn't harm anyone. I'm just the one suffering."
She also said, "I just posted on my personal account story about something that surprised me, but a reporter wrote an article and it spread like this. I will be more careful about mentioning my thoughts in the future."
Ayane also said, "No-salt is a mother's choice and I have never forced it on anyone or harmed anyone, so I have continued it until now," and added, "Whether to season a child's food or not isn't that big of a deal, right? It's all the mother's choice."
Meanwhile, Ayane married singer and actor Lee Ji-hoon in 2021, overcoming a 14-year age gap. She welcomed her first daughter Ruhee in 2024, and after two miscarriages, she recently announced a second pregnancy through in vitro fertilization, receiving many congratulations.
