Singer DinDin said he almost severed ties with his mother over an episode in which she checked his bankbook records in the past.
On the 8th, a video titled "[Parents' Day special] the story of mom finding my girlfriend" was uploaded to the "DinDin is DinDin" channel.
That day DinDin complained about his mother using his card, saying, "Sometimes I really get surprised while filming because a notification pops up. How do you spend 50,000 won at a bakery? After early morning prayer she goes to the bakery and says 'stay still, I'll pay,' and I'm sleeping and then I'm like 'what the heck. How do you spend 50,000 won at a bakery?'"
His mother said, "There are many people at the early morning prayer meeting," and DinDin grumbled, "You went to the hair salon today too, right? Suddenly a notification pops up. I told you to just put on makeup roughly and come, so do you still go to the salon?" In response, his mother said, "No, my hair was too long so I got a perm to cut it," and pointed out, "But please don't use that (alarm) for nothing (turn it off)," and DinDin replied, "You can use it, but I should know about it too."
Then his mother expressed hurt, saying, "What do you mean know? Mom doesn't use frivolous things at all," and DinDin drew attention by saying indignantly, "I used my mom's card before and she said to me, 'Who did you go to a motel with!'"
He recalled the absurd incident, saying, "What really made me angry was that I was an adult. I think I was twenty-three. I had started earning money. So I thought, 'I should manage my money,' but one day I came home and my bankbook was open in my room. My card statements showing what I used were all printed. I asked, 'What is this?' and my mother suddenly said, 'What is this motel charge?' I asked, 'Why are you checking this? It's money I earned.' She said, 'You should still report to your mother before you spend it.'"
DinDin said, "It didn't make sense to me. If I spent my mother's money it would be right to tell her, but this is money I started earning," and his mother explained, "My generation uses bankbooks, right? They do everything on their phones. I couldn't think that way and thought he was too busy to organize his bankbook, so I went and organized it all," adding, "I didn't look to see it, but when I did there were hotels and motels and other things," she explained.
DinDin said, "But at that time I almost cut ties with my mother. I felt she was censoring me," and his mother said, "I never had that thought at all," adding, "I was truly shocked. So I didn't say anything either," conveying the mutual hurt they felt.
DinDin said, "Because I was embarrassed too, I didn't want to show my mother that I went to hotels with someone. And at that time it happened quite often. That statement kept appearing. How much must she have seen me as a ruffian XX?" He explained it coincided with a period when he had many regional events and frequently stayed overnight away from home. He added another episode, saying, "There was another thing. Long ago I said I wanted a studio in an officetel, saying 'Mom, I think I need a studio,' so I rented an officetel for a studio. I was living there, and one day because it was my first time living independently my mother just came in. I was with someone."
His mother said, "I didn't think he would be with someone like that," and DinDin said, "My mom was so surprised she screamed and left. But it was so terrible that what happened was she screamed and I shouted 'Mom!' and then there's the front door here. Mom was standing outside and I was standing inside; you could hear her breathing and my breathing, and the front door was between us. But neither of us could open it because we were scared. Since no one said anything, my mom left. From that day on I told her not to come, but she said, 'Even so, how can I not come? I will come,'" he recounted another conflict.
His mother said, "I think I started to let go from then on. Gradually when I visit the house I check whether he agrees or not and ask if it's okay to come. Now if he messages on KakaoTalk I say, 'Okay, mom's time is available,' and I go; I don't go first anymore," she revealed the change after that day.
