"The King's Warden" actor Yoo Hai Jin won the grand prize in the film category.
On the 8th, the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci was held at COEX D Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, hosted by Shin Dong-yeob, Suzy and Park Bo Gum.
The Baeksang Arts Awards, established in 1965 to promote the development of Korean popular culture and arts and to boost the morale of artists, marked its 62nd year this year. In particular, this year, as it is the 60th anniversary of Korean musical theater, a musical category was newly created, bringing together all areas of popular culture and arts — broadcasting, film and theater — breaking down barriers between genres and becoming a festival that encompasses all fields of K-content.
The winner of the grand prize in the film category was Yoo Hai Jin for "The King's Warden." Yoo Hai Jin, moved to tears, said, "I am truly grateful," adding, "I was expecting the male acting award and was consoling myself that I didn't get it. Then the camera came to me and I thought they were giving a work award, but the grand prize looked like this."
Yoo Hai Jin added, "I am deeply grateful to the audience who sought out 'The King's Warden.' When I go to stage greetings, the theaters feel lively and people look healthier. I am so glad that people seem to have rediscovered the taste of theaters that had been forgotten. It feels like it's going toward 'Salmokji: Whispering Water,' and I'm pleased that many films have gained attention."
Yoo Hai Jin said, "Park Jihoon gave me good rhythm and eye contact, and I received that. I'm very grateful," adding, "Senior Ahn Sung-ki told me, 'Actors should of course work hard when acting, but how you live when you don't have work is important.' I lived repeating those words to myself, and I want to dedicate this honor to him."
