The Baeksang Arts Awards' film grand prize went to No Other Choice.
On the 8th, the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci was held at COEX Hall D in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, hosted by Shin Dong-yeob, Suzy and Park Bo Gum.
Instituted in 1965 to promote the development of Korea's popular culture and the morale of artists, the Baeksang Arts Awards marked its 62nd year this year. In particular, as this year marks the 60th anniversary of Korean musicals, a musical institutional sector was newly established, bringing together all areas of popular culture and the arts along with broadcasting, film and theater, breaking down boundaries between genres and reborn as a festival that encompasses all fields of K-content.
The film grand prize nominees were The King's Warden, No Other Choice, The World of Love, Good News and 3rd year, 2nd semester. Amid competition among these formidable works, the award went to No Other Choice, directed by Park Chan-wook.
Director Park Chan-wook said, "Looking at the results, I am confident that the judging was fair. No Other Choice was a work full of jokes, and I think that attitude of constantly trying jokes, trying to make the people around you laugh and making self-deprecating jokes even when you are angry or sad is necessary. That way you can let the steam out of the energy of anger and sadness and find an exit."
He added, "I didn't win at the Venice Film Festival and didn't get to the Academy Awards, but please believe what a director who received the Baeksang Arts Awards says."
