Actor Oh Yoon-ah shared the news that her son Min, who has a developmental disability, got a job, and she revealed honest worries she had held alongside her joy.
On the afternoon of the 8th, a video titled '[Oh!Yoon-ah] Our Min got a job. Min's cautious new start #OhYoonah #SongMin #employment' was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Oh!Yoon-ah'.
Oh Yoon-ah announced that her son Min had become an adult and a member of society. Oh Yoon-ah said, "Our Min got a job," and added, "(When it was reported) so many people reacted that he got a job. As soon as Min turned 20, unlike what we worried about, he became a working member of society," delivering the congratulatory news.
Yoon-ah asked her son kindly, "How was it when you went to work? Did you feel good?" In response, Min answered, "I went to work. I felt good," and his more confident appearance brought smiles to viewers.
But Oh Yoon-ah said she had considerable concerns before sharing this joyful news, and cautiously began, "The reason I hesitated to say this is that parents raising the same children and others may not view it only positively."
She continued, "Might people say, 'Because the mother is a celebrity, that's why it worked out'? There is that possibility. I was very cautious," adding her worry that her fame might overshadow her son's efforts or cause other parents of children with developmental disabilities to feel relatively deprived.
Oh Yoon-ah said, "Still, I hope people will not think that way too much because I am in the same position. We are all really struggling. Although Min is becoming an adult and seems to have good things happening often, there are also many difficult moments," conveying sincere empathy and consolation.
