'K-zombie master' director Yeon Sang-ho directed and the film 'Gunchae' (opens May 21), which drew attention with a star-studded lineup including Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan and Ji Changwook, has been unveiled.
'Gunchae,' which proved its global appeal by receiving an official invitation to the 79th Cannes Film Festival midnight screening institutional sector, raises prospective viewers' heart rates by releasing an official trailer that contains overwhelming suspense.
The newly released trailer begins by showing the tense scenes of people struggling to survive inside a building sealed off due to an unidentified infection.
Jun Ji-hyun, with a singular aura, transforms into the survivors' leader Kwon Se-jung, showing intense charisma and a desperate fight for survival. Koo Kyo-hwan, shining with a mysterious presence, plays Seo Young-chul, who, while everyone else fights to survive, calmly says, "I am the only vaccine that can stop this situation," and calibrates the film's tension.
Also appearing are Ji Changwook, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rock and Go Soo. A roster of acclaimed actors densely fills the unpredictable narratives of six characters trapped in the midst of the infection.
'Gunchae' boldly twists the conventions of existing zombie works. Beyond a simple chase between pursuer and pursued, the infected, who evolve into unpredictable forms, bring greater despair and terror to the survivors.
In particular, the survivors' sprint toward the building rooftop and the infected's fierce assault blocking them capture both speed and scale, showcasing the film as an "extremely entertaining movie." The scene in which the incident's central figure Seo Young-chul and leader Kwon Se-jung face each other signals a tense confrontation between the two and raises curiosity.
