Comedian Shin Gilru recounted an anecdote about how she paid special attention to the food for mourners even while her mother was in mourning.
On the 7th, a video titled "※Shin Gilru x original rice thief※ trying May seasonal blue crabs 10 + five kinds of seafood set" was uploaded to the Bebot TV channel.
That day Song Eun I and Shin Gilru held a blue crab mukbang. During it, Song Eun I said, "You seem to be thinking a lot these days. Recently you have been," and Shin Gilru confessed, "I've been thinking a lot. Because I'm going through the hardest thing in the world. My mother passed away recently, right? Since then I've been like this," she said.
Earlier, Shin Gilru had earlier drawn sympathy by announcing the news of her mother's death in March. She recalled, "Today I looked at my call records after talking with a senior. I looked at the records like, 'You have been contacting that senior often lately,' and saw that my mother passed away on March 17 at about six o'clock, and at the same time there was a call from that senior, and for some reason I picked up the call and talked for 59 seconds. What I remember now is that I wasn't there when I heard (my mother) had passed away. I was too scared. So I came out and then got a call from that senior," she recalled.
Song Eun I said, "I knew my mother was in the hospital so I was always praying. So while riding in the car I was praying for you and my mother and thought, 'I should call Gilru to see how mom is these days,' and then they said, 'She just passed away.' You cannot imagine how shocked I was," she said.
Shin Gilru said, "When I think about it now I'm grateful for everything," and Song Eun I said, "I wish they could stay longer, but parents don't always last as long as I hope. My father also passed away too soon," expressing her sorrow.
Shin Gilru joked, "After the funeral was over, a senior tried to comfort me and said, 'For a while you'll really be still and then cry. After a year, two years, four years you cry less.' I thought, 'Then by 50 I shouldn't be this sad,' but they said, 'Then when six years, seven years, eight years pass you'll be sadder,' so I rudely hung up," she joked, drawing laughter.
Song Eun I said, "What I meant was that after someone passes there's a period when it doesn't feel real. Then as more years pass you feel sadder, and others say it fades, but after about eight or ten years it becomes very vivid. That longing and regret. That's how it was for me," and added, "I don't know if this is something to talk about, but the food at the funeral hall was really delicious. I thought once again that it makes a difference when the bereaved is Gilru," she said.
Then Shin Gilru said, "As soon as we set up the wake, I asked the teachers to give me three kilograms of soup each before guests arrived. I circulated all the dishes there. This was better than stir-fried anchovies and squid was better than fermented skate. Like a motherless child crying there said, 'I'll take care of at least that, on my mother's way,'" she said, conveying her obsession with the food.
She revealed, "Honestly I asked because I had to eat too, but I kept doing it whenever I had a moment because I wanted the people who came to eat well. When people came to the wake and took their seats, outside of greeting times I only took care of that food. And I even brought a Hangang ramen machine to the funeral hall," she said, surprising listeners.
Song Eun I recalled, "Yeah. There were three ramen machines, I think," and Shin Gilru said, "So I set it up with jjapaghetti, Neoguri, and Shin ramen," describing a satisfying arrangement. Song Eun I marveled, "I've been to a lot of funerals. The guest service there was top-notch. Thanks to that I ate well that day."
