Comedian Lee Suji won the Baeksang Arts Awards for the second consecutive year.
On the 8th, the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci was held at COEX Hall D in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, hosted by Shin Dong-yeob, Suzy, and Park Bo Gum.
The Baeksang Arts Awards, established in 1965 to promote the development of Korean popular culture and arts and to boost artists' morale, marked its 62nd year this year. In particular, this year, as it is the 60th anniversary of Korean musical theater, a musical sector was newly established, bringing together all areas of popular culture and arts along with broadcasting, film and theater, breaking down boundaries between genres and becoming a festival that encompasses all fields of K-content.
The broadcast female variety award trophy, contested by Hong Jin Kyung, Jang Do-youn, Lee Suji, Seorina and Kim Yeon Kyung, went to Lee Suji for the second consecutive year.
The nominees also protested passionately at Shin Dong-yeob's tension-raising hosting. Hong Jin Kyung and Jang Do-youn voiced strong objections to the camera, and Lee Suji could not hold back tears when her name was called.
Lee Suji said, "I love the 'SNL Korea' family so much. I live thinking I'm not a special person but someone who does special work, and sometimes I would break down, feel tired and burdened. Senior Shin Dong-yeob told me that if I work with warmth in my heart, I would achieve great things. I'm so grateful to the seniors who have been so good to me and to those who work hard for laughter."
Lee Suji said, "People call it ad-lib on 'Hot Issue' but it's all scripted. Thank you for enjoying it. I will always strive to highlight people who quietly do their work across society. It's Parents' Day and my father-in-law is very ill. I hope he smiles when he watches the broadcast. I also thank and love my mother."
