Actor Park Jeongmin broke free from the title of 'king of no awards.'
On the 8th, the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci was held at COEX Hall D in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, hosted by Shin Dong-yeob, Suzy and Park Bo Gum.
The Baeksang Arts Awards, established in 1965 to promote the development of Korean popular culture and arts and to boost the morale of artists, marked its 62nd year this year. In particular, as this year marks the 60th anniversary of Korean musical theater, a musical institutional sector was added, bringing together television·film·theater and reuniting all areas of popular culture and arts into one, breaking down genre boundaries and reborn as a festival encompassing all fields of K-content.
Nominees for best actor in film included Hong Kyung (Good News), Lee Byung-hun (No Other Choice), Yoo Hai Jin (The King and the Man), Park Jeongmin (Face), and Koo Kyo-hwan (Once We Were Us), and Park Jeongmin took home the award.
After beating out strong competitors to win the award, Park Jeongmin introduced himself, saying, "I played two roles in Face," then said, "We were talking about what I would say if I sat down and received an award, but I of course didn't expect to win and came with nothing prepared. I gained the nickname 'king of no awards' because I couldn't win at award ceremonies, but receiving this award makes me think I will be hung up on it from now on. I will become an actor who works harder at acting," he said.
Park Jeongmin said, "I was greedy because I thought I couldn't show my acting with a single role, so I wanted more, and I'm thankful to the director who permitted it. My mother told me to sit well at the awards ceremony and come, but I love my father and mother, and I had a big fight with my younger sibling, so please forgive me," drawing laughter.
