"Sora and Jin Kyung": Hong Jin Kyung recalled a past when her self-esteem hit rock bottom after receiving a blunt critique from Han Hye-jin.
On March 3, MBC's "Sora and Jin Kyung" featured Lee Sora and Hong Jin Kyung meeting top model Han Hye-jin to seek advice.
Earlier, Lee Sora and Hong Jin Kyung had taken snap photos and walking videos and sent profiles to a Paris agency. That day Hong Jin Kyung told Han Hye-jin, "I have no expectations. Even if we all fail, it's worth it. I'll just go to Paris, see the Eiffel Tower and enjoy it — it's a variety show anyway."
At that, a serious Han Hye-jin said, "You can't go with that mindset. If you go in thinking like that, your chances are slim to none," and criticized her sharply.
Hong Jin Kyung lamented, "If we all fail, I'll be so embarrassed," adding, "Is the Paris fashion world a joke? There are so many pretty, young models from around the world."
Then Han Hye-jin shot back, "It's a place where everyone wants to get on once. It's the dream city for all models. You should go with that kind of mindset even more. These are kids at a crossroads in their lives. If you go there thinking 'Will I make it?' it's actually rude to those girls," delivering a blunt criticism.
Han Hye-jin encouraged her, "You debuted as a model. You were originally a fashion model and although you're a comedian now, the DNA of a fashion model runs in your blood. That has awakened again after 30 years."
Meanwhile, Hong Jin Kyung revealed feelings she had kept hidden. She said, "To be honest, if someone says they're going to model even once, they should try Paris. I really want to go too," recalling the time she quit all broadcasting activities to challenge fashion week in the past.
However, she returned home without appearing in a single fashion show. Hong Jin Kyung confessed, "At that time my self-esteem was really at rock bottom and I couldn't get a grip on myself. I thought, 'Why did I come here?' I thought this wasn't my path, so I focused on variety shows."
She added, "But now that we're suddenly saying let's go, something sincere has come to my heart. But I'm also afraid. As sincerity rises, I'm afraid I'll get hurt, and I'm afraid it would be humiliating if I fail completely."
Han Hye-jin advised, "If you take it lightly the process may be easier, but you make yourself soft and loose and exclude the version of yourself that would work harder and fight. You have to treat auditions as if there's no tomorrow. With that rotten mindset of yours, when you get on the plane back to Korea you'll be hitting the ground and regretting it."
Above all, Han Hye-jin said, "I didn't look back. I really worked hard. I went to 30 auditions a day. So would I have regrets?" adding, I have "no regrets at all."
