'Wild Sing' Gang Dong-won hoped for a challenge from global group BTS, which V belongs to.
On the morning of the 7th at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University entrance in Seoul, a production briefing for the film "Wild Sing" was held. Attending were lead actors Gang Dong-won, Um Tae-goo, Park Ji-hyun, Oh Jung-se and director Son Jae-gon.
"Wild Sing" (director Son Jae-gon, distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by About Film) is a comedy film about a three-member mixed-gender dance group called "Triangle" that once swept the music scene but disbanded overnight after being caught up in an unexpected incident, and now makes a reckless challenge to seize a comeback opportunity that arrives 20 years later. It is a collaboration between About Film, the production company of the 2019 comedy that drew 16.26 million viewers, "Extreme Job", and director Son Jae-gon, who has built a distinctive comedy world with "Hitched".
From pretty boy to prolific actor, Chungmuro representative Gang Dong-won leads the team as Triangle leader and dance machine Hyun Woo, boasting an unrivaled aura and picture-perfect visuals. Powerful presence actor Um Tae-goo plays Triangle's youngest storm rapper Sang-gu, who shows off unstoppable swag, and rising star Park Ji-hyun, active across films and series, plays Triangle's center Domi, who radiates refreshing energy and absolute charm, showing unpredictable chemistry. In addition, Oh Jung-se plays self-proclaimed "ear-girlfriend" and ballad singer Seong-gon, bringing lively energy to the film with distinctive comedy acting.
When asked, "Challenges are trending; is there an idol you hope would do it?", Gang Dong-won said, "I would be honored if anyone did it. Everyone would be an honor, but BTS suddenly came to mind.. (laughs) I would be honored if they did it," drawing laughter.
Oh Jung-se, who plays the ear-girlfriend in the film, said, "I would appreciate it if Park Kyung-rim did it, and I would be very grateful if Sung Si Kyung, who hosts the ear-girlfriend program, did it too."
Earlier, when Triangle's music video and tracks were released, internet users poured comments expressing the wish to definitely see the three perform as a box-office promise.
Gang Dong-won confessed, "It would be disrespectful to singers for us to stand on stage. We don't have that level of skill," and added, "Also, it has been a year since filming finished, so I don't remember the choreography; I remember parts of it.. (laughs) Even if there might be a chance, it would still be disrespectful to the singers."
He also admitted, "While filming this movie I came to respect idols. I mean it. One reason I worked harder was that the job of an actor is to represent someone and express joy, anger, sorrow and pleasure and convey that to the audience. I wanted to convey the singers' hardships. I worked hard, but at the same time it was very tough. There was a lot to prepare and it was very hard."
Meanwhile, "Wild Sing" opens on Jun. 3.
